Hey, just looking for some information or a website that will either support or diminish the theory that a aeroplane (namely a large airliner) will glide after the engin's have cut out? I;m not sure weather it will or not but jusrt my train of thought concludes that it should glide atleast reasonably? Any help to support this or demolish it would be great..
Thanks

Anything that can fly will glide.
It is a matter of converting the potential energy
in the altitude, (it took power to get up there),
into forward motion. This is accomplished with
the aerodynamic pitch control, (elevators).
The question is: how well?

by ability of the character of ways airplanes fly, every physique is able to gliding. Altitude can continuously be exchanged for airspeed (minus friction losses), and airspeed is the only element that makes airplanes fly. all the engines do is convert processed dinosaur bones into airspeed. on the main effortless point, thats the way it fairly works; uncomplicated as that. Even a helicopter can choose the flow with out ability. On great airplanes the engines do ability the hydraulics, which ability numerous the administration surfaces. There are equipment redundancies in place for each little thing this is severe. for that reason, if one engine is lost, the different can grant hydraulic ability. If the two are lost the Auxiliary ability unit can grant the flexibility. If, interior the somewhat no longer likely journey that doesn't artwork there's a element noted as a ram air turbine. it rather is a hydraulic pump that extends into the airstream, and is pushed by ability of propeller blades. The altitude is being switched over into airspeed, which keeps the airplane flying and additionally (on maximum great airplanes) grants hydraulic ability. it could additionally be electrically powered, and the pump can run on batteries. No airplane will ever fall out of the sky till the pilot is performing some form of aerobatic flying and is intentionally makes the airplane do it, or there is a few form of somewhat no longer likely catastrophic journey. i'd be extra apprehensive approximately spontaneous human combustion...
