Astronomy & Space - October 2007

The most efficient vacuum that we have ever made on Earth is not nearly as empty as the void of space, apparently.

So just how many atoms are 'floating' around up there in a portion of space? (doesn't have to be a cubic square - whatever is easiest to visualise).

I'm not talking the matter within it, space itself.

http://zebu.uoregon.edu/1997/images/hubbledeep.jpg

It's called the Hubble Deep Field. It was an image made of a tiny point of sky, that appeared completely black to the naked eye. Using the Hubble Telescope, multiple exposures over many orbits were made, creating this image. Just about every dot, spot, smudge, and hazy patch is a galaxy! To me, the image has implications that are difficult to even express. The phrase 'Worlds without end' never had such a deep meaning to me before. If a tiny pinpoint of sky has THIS, then, spread over the whole sky...it's just unbelievable. I feel something akin to religious awe, though I'm not religious. It's like trying to contemplate forever, like looking Infinity straight in the eye. What do you think?

More detail..If two magnetic structures, one positive and one negative, on Mars' poles ( south and north ), could the atmostphear be protected like it is here on Earth from the Suns solar winds?
Creat the same effect thats naturally happening on Earth on Mars.
Could this be posible and not just science fiction?
It's a vision I had and was wondering if it's a posible solution to colonizing Mars in the future.
Making sure, of course that this doesn't affect us on Earth.
Just wondering...Thanks

So a sun gets so big it's own gravity causes it to implode, making a black hole which proceeds to suck in everything else around it. Is it possible for black holes such as this to ever get 'full,' or will they go on sucking things in forever?
