If you are a kid today, you might get a shot at it when you are in your 40s or 50s. If you happen to be exceptionally rich, you will probably be able to hitch a ride with the Russians who want to offer a ride around the moon (no landing) for something like $100 million. That is a lot of dough. Even for a kid. The greater question I would ask myself, if I had $100 million to waste, would I want to blow it on a one time joyride or would I want to help hundreds of thousands of children to get an education...? I know my answer. I let you find yours.

I am not sure there is a lot of incentive to go to the moon, in the first place. It is not a nice place to be and the flight will be extremely dangerous for a long time to come.

If you want to do something really useful involving the moon and the planets, learn science and go help the people who build space probes like Cassini and the Mars Rovers. The solar system belongs to the robots and they will do the hard work. Humans will always be their slaves up there, depending on the pressure, oxygen and water they make for us and the protection they provide. Man in a can, so to speak. And that is not a place where man shines. The robots don't need cans... they can live in space just fine. And that is why they will be the real masters.

What reason would kids have to go to the Moon? Just to go run around and play for awhile?

Space exploration is not some kind of game where we drop all science and try to set the Guiness record for the youngest astronaut. What's next, the fattest astronaut or the tallest astronaut or the first bearded astronaut lady?

The answer is NO.

Definitely, if the country had continued the space program with the same zeal it had in the fifties and sixties, we would already have bases on the moon, and possibly Mars.

Sure. By 2050 traveling to the moon will be as common as going to the Caribbean on a vacation!

Maybe in 100 years space travel will be safe and routine enough for kids to go. But I would be surprised if it happened sooner.

yes, cause they already have space programs for kids 10 and up. At NASA but you have to be trained or you can't do it properly you are screwed.
