For example, a planet-thick shell of lead at 3K with an inner radius of 13 billion light years or so.

This is why the sky is mostly dark. Also, the universe expands due to the gravitational pull from objects outside of the shell.

I am an open-minded Christian who believes God created the heavens and the earth, but I was wondering what theories are out there, being the science geek that I am. :)

I'm currently in Astronomy 102, and we're going to start working with our 16" and 10" telescopes to take photos of clusters, galaxies, and all that good stuff in the sky and ultimately come up with a portfolio at the end of the semester.

What are some of your favorite objects to take photos of this time of the year up in the Northern Hemisphere? (Either the NGC or Messier name if it's not relatively well-known.)

Any tips for this novice? :D
