According to General Relativity (or maybe special Relativity), all bodies with mass warp space. Those with larger mass warp it more than smaller masses. This creates a warp or Gravity Well, into which other bodies are attracted.
Think of space as a large flat sheet, about one hundred metres (yards) across, made of very stretchy material, such as stocking nylon. Onto that sheet, you put a large, heavy ball such as a cannon ball. It would create a deep dent, centring at the ball, but pulling in material from a distance around it. If you put another cannon ball, half its size well away from it, another well will be formed, not as deep and not stretching out as far. if they were closer, so that their wells were close enough to influence each other, then they would fall together, creating one larger well. Space is the material, the balls are any massive object, like a planet or star and Gravity is the well.
This is a 2 dimensional analogy, and space is 3 (or 4) dimensional, but this is a simple way to express a complex concept.

Gravity is one of the 4 fundamental forces that we are aware of in the universe. It is the weakest of the 4 and is also the least understood. The force of gravity is an attractive force between all objects with mass. Essentially, all mass pulls on other mass to some degree. It is an extremely weak force such that it is only noticeable on scales of the very large (like planets and stars).
General relativity treats gravity as a distortion of space-time. The more concentrated matter is, the greater the distortion.
Quantum physics has explained the other 3 forces are transmitted by force-carrier bosons (particles). The strong force is transmitted by gluons, the weak force by W and Z bosons, and the electromagnetic force by photons. All of these particles have been observed direclty or indirectly at some point. Gravity on the other hand is theorized to be transmitted by the theoretical graviton, but this particle has never been observed in any way. This is one of the reasons why gravity is the least understood forces in our universe.
