With few exceptions, everything in the solar system spins in the same direction, basically because that's the direction the cloud that it condensed from was spinning. A handfull of objects, such as Venus, got whacked hard enough by other large objects to set it spinning the other way, albeit somewhat slowly. The earth apparently didn't.

If the earth rotated the other the tides would flood the earth,all things work in clock wise motion so when the mood goes thru its phases. the waters of the earth are pulled and forced to go one way. That one reason I'm sure there or many more.
