For example, a planet-thick shell of lead at 3K with an inner radius of 13 billion light years or so.

This is why the sky is mostly dark. Also, the universe expands due to the gravitational pull from objects outside of the shell.

Well, since god made the world exactly perfect in its form that if anything was the slightest different the world would burn freeze or we would all just die!

Hypothetically, such a sphere would be too massive to support itself. It would collapse, probably, to a black hole with that amount of mass (3 m l y radius).

However there are different theories about the "fabric"of space. One theory is that what we perceive of as empty space may be filled with "something"that we presently can't detect or aware of such as fields of energy (Higg's field), or that perhaps gravity has component to it that we are unaware of. A more contemporary idea is that the universe is filled with "dark matter". Scientists' current predictions only account for about 30% of the observable universe (both energy and matter). So . . . where,or what is the other 70% composed of?

What if the whole universe were surrounded
by a spherical shell of ordinary matter?

What if? Then that is how it would be. And maybe it is. But how does that affect or change your daily life? and why worry about things like that?
