2.Organisms that cannot make their own food are autotrophs.
3. In the dark reactions of photosynthesis, the energy in sunlight is captured and used to make ATP and NADPH.
4.Because they cannot make their own food, autotrophs rely on the food-making ability of green plants.
5. Photosystems are clusters of pigment molecules that are able to capture the energy of sunlight.
6.Glycolysis is an aerobic process that breaks down food molecules to produce energy.
7.When there is no oxygen present, yeast cells break down glucose to form lactic acid and carbon dioxide.

I heard this fact recently on tv, I think it was on Discovery:

-The Mayans, thousands of years ago, had calculated the precise date on when the earth would align in such a way in the sky, that it would be in a straight line with the black hole found in the Aquarius constellation. That, they predicted, would create such circumstances as to cause the planet earth to possibly cease to exist.

Apparently, they were extremely accurate and advanced in their astronomical knowledge. All predictions were accurate and had occurred as predicted. Now what? The say that December 12th (or 14th, I forgot), in 2012 would probably be our last day. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Has anyone heard any scientific research or evidence about this subject? Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

An accident involves a car of mass 1964 kg which approachs a stationary car of mass 1020 kg. The driver of car A applies his brakes 12.3 meters before he crashes into car B. After the collision, car A slides 12.3 meters while car B slides 31.2 meters. The coefficient of kinetic friction between the locked wheels and the road for both cars is 0.630.

How fast was the driver of car A going before he hit the brakes?

I know this is a conservation of energy problem but it has friction involved so I dont know how to appoach the problem

The number of houses that can be served by a water main is directly proportional to the square of the diameter of the main. This is because the cross-sectional area of the pipe, and thus the number of liters per minute that can flow, varies directly with the square of the diameter. Suppose that the City Waterworks has a 10 cm diameter water main that can supply 50 houses.

I know that the particular equation is h=0.5d^2
I just don't know how you get that. Thank you!

I remember seeing a movie and also reading in books about the wild west that before anesthesia was discovered, doctors would operate on people using alcohol as an anesthetic. Does this practice still exist? Is it possible to successfully operate on someone who has passed out after too much drinking? I also heard a similar story about a girl who claimed to have lost her virginity without feeling a thing, because her boyfriend supposedly got her drunk, then "took advantage" when she was passed out. Could something like that happen, presuming the alcohol was not laced with any other substances?
