I heard this fact recently on tv, I think it was on Discovery:
-The Mayans, thousands of years ago, had calculated the precise date on when the earth would align in such a way in the sky, that it would be in a straight line with the black hole found in the Aquarius constellation. That, they predicted, would create such circumstances as to cause the planet earth to possibly cease to exist.
Apparently, they were extremely accurate and advanced in their astronomical knowledge. All predictions were accurate and had occurred as predicted. Now what? The say that December 12th (or 14th, I forgot), in 2012 would probably be our last day. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Has anyone heard any scientific research or evidence about this subject? Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Sorry, what they said was that the alignment would cause a possible SHIFT in the earth's AXIS, but they aren't sure how the earth might tilt. The tilting could cause a catastrophe--severe climate conseqences. For instance, we could end up where the north pole is and the north pole could shift elsewhere.

This is the way i look at it.
The mayans are full of sh!t. Everybody has there own beleifs it doesn't matter . For example the catholics have been saying that the world is going to end when the next pope dies(that is what my teacher told me). Pope John paul the second died recently did the world end. NO!!! Pretty mcuh it what you beleive in.
People look at thing in different perspectives. For example i could draw picture of something and people 100 years from now would think it could be something completely different. WE all look at things different ways!.
Also a lot of prophsies are very vague like a fortuane cookie so we see things differents.
If the world does end I think that it would be cause by nuclear war. Not global warming because sea levels will rise, animals would die but we and other species would adapt to it. And plus there are a lot of countries that have high ground above sea level.
Also wasnt there something back in 2000 that all electronic devices would not work or something. i dont know something like that. Did that happen? NO!!
Well thats the way i see things.

Yea, my US History teacher likes to tell his students about this.
I disagree.
I mean, people have been saying the world is coming to an end for as long as man has existed.
What makes 2012 different? Sure, the Mayans predicted it, but maybe it's just a lucky sequence of events.
Everything has a probability.
You can take it back to the monkeys and typewriter scenario.
If you set up a room of monkeys with accompanying typewriters, and leave them alone for eternity, eventually one will type out great works of literature, Hamlet for example. The odds are so infinitely small that it's considered "not possible." But it is, and so is the mayans getting a lucky guess.
Of course, this is my personal opinion, and for all I know we'll all die in 2012. Sad to think about, eh?

This is old.
In fact, many many years old. Haha.
Anyway, the Mayan calendar has actually restarted a couple of times already.
Also, what program was this? It's highly inaccurate.
The Mayan did not actually "predict" that the world would end 2012. It was supposed to be like turning to a new planet or something, and they've listed dates at later periods after 2012. One of them was a celebration of an anniversary or something.
Anyway, I'm not a very spiritual person.

Since a black hole is a sphere in space when are we ever NOT in alignment with a black hole?
Since the concept of a black hole was not known until recently it's hard to imagine how the Mayans could know about something that cannot be seen to predict a date about an alignment with it.
There is no evidence.

This is so weird. I have actually never heard this before. I think that if it were real or if people were actually concerned about this is would be on more of the news headlines. It might be, maybe I just missed them. If this is true, then I better hurry up and get married. jk, im 14. haha. I hope this isn't true! But you are right, I heard the mayans were always accurate in those things....hopefully not this time.

Not to mention the fact that, I am sure if there was even a shred of validity to those statements, I am sure there would be millions of people across the globe shouting the end is near, and you wouldn't just be hearing about this now on the discovery channel when we're only 5 years shy. (there would be like, a national countdown or something).

Wasn´t the world supposed to end in 1899? And 1999? And has it? So the Mayan calender ends in 2012. My run out december 31 2007. The world is just as likely to end then as in 2012. Or tomorrow. Or the day Hillary is elected president...

Do a search for "2012" on Wacko! Answers. You'll find this question asked several times each day. Choose the answers you believe carefully.
In short, it's crap. The cable channels are not news channels. They exist to make money.

I hope there isn't because, I probably wouldn't be able to do a lot of things. Get married finish college and become a surgeon or something. I'd miss out on a lot and think of all the babies born on the last day. Well I hope it isn't true!
