A commerical freight carrier is flying at a constant speed of 400 mi/h and is traveling 4 mi east for every 3 mi north. A private plane is observed to be 210mi due east of the commerical carrier, traveling 12 mi north for every 5 mi west.If it is known that they are on a collision course, how fast is the private plane flying?

Ok so when i tried the problem out..., the freight has a slope of 4/3;The private plane 12/-5;The freight is traveling at 400mi/h; and the we need to know the plane; so maybe i try putting y=mx+b for both making them equal to find the speed? I got lost trying to find speed.Help?

I had my house fully fumigated October 2006, meaning it was covered the whole house entirely, and fumigated for sub and med. termites (two different kinds).
Now, since last week I have found 4 living termites flying around, and none since the whole year. I am upset.
Could it be they did not do a good job the company, or are they coming from the neighbor next door?
She rents, but I do not want to ask her, and if she does have termites from her home coming to mine, could I sue or what action can I take against her property management company? Or do I have to call my company up again?

I swear im not just fishing for answers lol i just need some help and my book is not doing the trick..

"what is the weight of a 76kg astronaut on (a)Earth, (b) on the moon (g = 1.7m/s2) and, (c) on mars (g= 3.7m/s2) and (d) in outer space traveling with constant velocity?"

i know that F=mg in this case, and i understand the difference between weight and mass.. I guess im just having trouble understanding... do i use 9.8m/s2 for g when im calculating for earth? cause then i get a really high (unrealistic) weight. and wouldnt weight and mass be the same on earth anyway? lol now im just thinking too much.. ANY help please :)

A ball held by a string is coasting around in a large horizontal circle. The string is then pulled in so the ball coasts in a smaller circle. When it is coasting in the smaller circle its speed is:

a) greater
b) less
c) unchanged

Yes - I know it's not a difficult question but it allows for a great discussion of the mechanics involved and relates to the last question nicely.

Here's a nice little problem distantly related to some work I did way back when for my honours thesis.

In ring theory, an idempotent element is one which is its own square. In a ring with unity, 0 and 1 are always idempotents, but there may or may not be other idempotent elements.

Now the product of idempotents is not necessarily an idempotent. In my honours thesis I was concerned with characterising the elements that could be expressed as the product of idempotents. Here's a little problem relating this to the simple ring Z_n (n any integer ≥ 2).

a) Prove that in Z_n, the product of two idempotents is also an idempotent.

b) If n = p^r where p is prime, show that the only idempotents of Z_n are 0 and 1.

c) If n = pq where p and q are distinct primes, show that Z_n has exactly four idempotents and characterise them.

d) For arbitrary n ≥ 2, characterise the number of idempotents in Z_n in terms of the prime power factorisation of n.

The following sets of three numbers each form a word. Put the words together to find a question, and then submit the answer to that question:

(1,4,45) (2,7,5) (6,1,11) (24,3,47) (16,1,6) (13,9,5) (94,3,27) (258,2,41)?

What is the answer?

I have tried really hard but can't figure these problems out:

1) A coin bank contains 30 coins, all dimes and quarters, worth $5.70. Write a system of linear equations to represent this situation. How many dimes and how many quarters are in the bank?

2) You have $25 to spend on picking 21 pounds of 3 different types of apples in an orchard. The empire apples cost $1.40 per pound, the red delicious apples cost $1.10 per pound, and the golden delicious cost $1.30 per pound. You want twice as many red delicious apples as the other two types combined. How many pounds of each type of apple should you buy?

3) solve for a: S= a(1-r^n)
--------------- (divided by)
1-r

If you could help I would appreciate it sooo much!!!
