In grade 11 I was told the formula was MnO4 with a charge of 2-. Now in grade 12 my new teacher says it is MnO3 with a charge of 1-...

I think personally that the first one is right because my new teacher seems pretty bad at following the rules and frequently puts "+2" rather than "2+" for ions in the superscript, and says it is good practice to put "+1" on ions like potassium rather than just "+".

Could someone please help me solve this predicament? :p

I have started a new website - www.hauntedsandhills.com to host my fledging paranormal investigative team. If anyone is willing to share their photos, stories, and/or experiences I would much appreciate it. I'm looking for material based in North Carolina, preferrably the Sanford, Fayetteville and coastal areas. But anything is welcome. I placed a similar query before, but placed it in the wrong section. Thanks in advance for anything you can contribute!

I will be obtaining a degree in civil engineering soon, and realized that everywhere I have co-oped at, I use Autocad alot, and the firms realize I am good at it (I have 7+ yrs of experience, 23yrs old) and that is all they ever have me do! I figure I may as well persue an autocad-related career, but is my engineering degree going to be overkill, and not compensated for?

Since it formed out of countless collisions with tiny rocks in a more-or-less continuous fashion, there doesn't really seem to be a clear distinction between "not Earth yet" and "Earth". So what is being defined with that "date"? The rock having Earth's present mass? A regular orbit around the sun? A certain core temperature?
Thanks

I was reading this news story at Yahoo.com:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20070912/sc_space/bizarreparasiticstarfound

And I was wondering if scientists have found a way to detect things that are happening now (or fairly recently) in space. Isn't everything we observe in space millions of years old (like an old movie)? How do we really know what's happening now?

If an alien civilization out there somewhere looked at us, wouldn't they see the Earth (if they could see it) as it was millions of years ago?

(e^x + e^-x)/(e^x - e^-x) = 3

Please show me step-by-step how you're supposed to solve that! I'll pick a best answer TODAY! Thank you so much!

I was just wondering if G. H. Hardy's "A Course of Pure Mathematics" was considered good for learning real analysis. I don't think I've had the best calculus preparation I could have had at a university.
