Hello,

I am trying to calculate the circumference of a ring with a cross cut out. For better understanding see this drawing:
http://img14.imgspot.com/u/07/234/16/slottedtube.gif

Known dimensions are D, d1 and d2. I want to calculate the total length of lines and curves marked in RED color.

Based on the knowledge gained from one of my previously asked question I managed to come up with a foruma to calculate this. I would appreciate if you could have a look and tell me if my formula is correct or did I make a mistake?

Here goes:

The total length L is:
L = 8 * X + 4 * Y

X = 1/2 * SQRT(D^2 - d2^2) - 1/2 * SQRT(d1^2 - d2^2)

Y = (90 - 2 * arcsin(d2/d1) ) * PI * d1 / 360

Is this correct? If someone can calculate the surface on his/her own and let me know if my approach is correct that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

I have really bad muscle and joint pain. Went to this specialist but he is really weird, kinda rude, and I cant understand his accent half the time. Well he proscribed me naproxen. I took it once and it did nothing for me but give me a headache and bad cramps. But later I did some research on it and it says that people that take it are at risk of heart attach and stroke. And for people with heart disease in their family not to take it. I know I remember telling this docotor that heart disease runs in my family. So I stoped taking it.
I was just wondering if anyone else had every taken this medication before?

So, I'm doing a physics problem, and I ran into a bit of a problem. I am trying to find the force water exerts on a dam - I found that the total force is equal to
(where H = height of water, W = width)

F = (water density)( gravity )( W ) times the

integral from 0 to H of (H - y) dy. where y is the vertical axis

How would I find that integral?

thanks!

Can anybody explain why there should be a discontinuous bifurcation convergence in values for the function x^x^x^x... (to infinity), beginning at x = (1/e)^e, as x approaches 0 from higher values? It looks like a fork like what you see in a water "gas-liquid-solid" phase diagram, to give you a pictorial idea.

I have been asking this question in different ways, but I am still not getting a satisfactory answer. We have some mechanisms for evolution in some populations in laboratory experiments. There is more than that in the evolution theory, but let's focus on that. To be interesting, these mechanisms in these specific populations must generalize to all the family tree in real life. So, they must be quite complex mechanisms. Some say they can be reduced to chemistry & physics. We might believe this, but I don't think we have actually proved that -- and a reduction is not something where evidence is enough, it is a mathematical process. So, how do we know that known physics & chemistry is enough? When evolutionists insist that there is a reduction, I am thinking that may be the model for the family tree is much simpler than I think, and there is not so much complexity. So, I try to see what it is formally, but I only got answers about religions, etc. Please no discussion about religions.
