Some really love music and believe it or not they are just as pickey as we can be with the type. I work at a zoo and we play music for the animals all the type as enrichment or just for fun. It is great to see their mood change when they hear something they really like.

There was a choir here not too long ago and they allowed a small group of them to sing for some of our primates. They LOVED the group! If memory serves the zoo event went a purchased a cd from the choir so they could listen to it whenever they wanted.

Nonetheless, the volume at which some people listen to music can really bother them due to the fact that their hearing can be so much more sensitive than ours.... but they do love music. Not all animals love it of course though.

It's hard to know because nobody can ask an animal if it enjoys music. In fact, nobody really knows if animals are capable of actually enjoying anything, at least the way humans do.

Animals make rythmic sounds which serve to convey some sort of message. Birds sing to advertise their presence; it is the male who usually does this to attract females. Humpbacked whales also sing songs, and of their own composition. However, like birds, all the whales sing the same song, although it changes over time. Wolves howl to advertise their presence to neighboring packs. It is meant to be a territorial display. It is not like music because every wolf will howl at a slightly different pitch. This allows other packs to identify the number of wolves in a rival pack. It is thought that humans sing for the same reason. However, all the humans sing on the same note. This is a territorial display which relies on volume, and works to keep rival clans of humans guessing how many members a particular clan actually has. This is a form of psycological warfare which discourages conflict in a very xenophobic species able to count by sight. As humans became modern, they began to enjoy music for purely aestetic reasons. It is now a form of art and not an instrument of primative warfare.

it is not known? I've seen just from my own dog that most of the time she leaves when I play music on my computer and already know she does not like it, but there are some songs that she actually comes into the room and just sits there. Rather she likes CERTAIN NOT SO LOUD tracks or just wants to be near me over the music is unknown. I've hard the same stories from other dog owners that some songs seem to put enjoyment in dogs. I used this lone animal because it is the best I can relate. as far as other animals I don't think that they care but there are still some that may even reptiles but no studies have been done so I can't answer this question.
