Life should be defined as any grouping of atoms that sustains its structure by appropriating other forms of matter; energetic or otherwise.

This definition satifies all current accepted forms of life but also doesn't restrict life to having to have some basic elemental basis.

Just atoms, intelligent or not, maintaing their structure by utilizing the matter and energy around it...so rocks arent alive.

Stars are alive they are attempting to maintain their structure and can be thought of like fertilized chicken eggs. All the nutrients and foodstuff is in the shell to get the living zygote from a zygote to a chicken. The star has all the gases it needs to survive and maintain its state.

Fire isn't in itself alive because it doesnt have a atomic structure, its the free release of atoms and electrons, and is more a reaction than a proactive process.

So this definition is more of an atomic process than a molecular process. Thoughts?

Lets say someone is struck by lightning, and they don't die.

What exactly will happen to them, like the after effects? Will they have brain damage for sure?

Basically, someone is struck by lightning, seven years later, will they still have scars for sure? Is there anyway you could be struck by lightning and then seven years later have no scars from it?

The rate of increase of thickness of ice on a pond is inversely proportional to the thickness of the ice is x centimetres and the temperature of the air above the ice is -a degrees celcius, the rate is (ax/14400) cm/s. Form an appropriate differential equation, and hence show that, if the -10 degrees celcuis, the time taken for the thickness to increase from 5 cm to 6 cm is a little more than 2 hours.

In a worse case scenario: I heard the astronauts could stay in the space station for 65 days, in the event it is deemed to dangerous to come home. They said a space walk is pretty risky, to try and repair the shuttle. How many docking points does that space station have? Sure hope it's more than one? If another shuttle went up with a rescue crew, would they try to fix the other shuttle?? What would make a space walk for the rescue crew any less dangerous? Would they possibly jettison the damaged shuttle and let those millions of dollars just float? What if the rescue shuttle has damaged tile too?? Don't want to be negative, but it seems like every flight of late??
