First, permanently remove the door if the large appliance is a front loading washer or a dryer or a refrigerator.
You can't do much with a top-loading washer as-is , but inside there is a good motor and a pump, hoses, etc. It would be a good play project for you together with the chidren , depending on their ages, to take it apart.
Any of the washer or dryer tubs can be used to climb inside and roll around in the yard with someone pushing.
A refrigerator door makes a good sled on sand or snow.

oh no... creative mother i like it......
i have several suggestions:
1. in my country, if junk stuff can sale to junk yard that owned by personal, so u can get money for your old washing machine then u can buy outdoor equipment for your kids, at least it you can save you expenditure.
2. if your kids is a boy, u can release the your old machine door an let them play soccer or American football and your old machine be a goal.
but i hope watch and give them your attention when they playing around, if u can't u can share this responsibility with your husband.
as long as they under your control by watching them, it will be fine....
I hope u can spend 1 or 2 hours to accompany them when they playing.

You could but might end up costing to much money to secure it to so it was safely done. There are a lot of sharp edges on the tubs. The tub it self would need a brace so it would have to be safe too. Might be able to use dirt for the brace but it's going to end up getting full of junk.
I would look into building equipment out of wood. Saw,hammer, how to book and lots of time, is all you need,.

Be very creative. Personally I wouldn't. It wouldn't be safe, it would be an eye sore, and not the funnest toy in the world.
