Hi. They travel in the same orbit but one is opposite to the Earth's orbit and have a higher speed of entry. The Leonids are therefore more spectacular (approaching the Earth and with a higher speed) than the Perseids.

The Leonids are a lot more variable than the Perseids. Most years they're a pretty minor shower, but every few years they put on a special show that can't be equaled. The Perseids are the most consistently good shower, year after year, decade after decade, though the Geminids in December come close.

I've always had better weather (colder, but better) for the Geminids, so that is usually a better show for me. One year I'll see a good Perseids show! Last night there was some cloud cover but I still got to see a few--and one of those bright wormburner types near the horizon that are so cool. But I had to stay in the city this time and there were too many clouds--but maybe I can see a few more tonight.

It depends on what year it is.. In1999-2000, the Leonids were spectacular. The y reaally were a "shower" with several meteors visible simultaneously. This spectacle lasted for over an hour.`
