Line 1 is parallel to line 2. If the slope of L1 is x/4, and the slope of L2 is (x+5)/6, find the value of x.

Okay, now most people say this is how the problem is solved....but what in the world did they do with the 6? By the looks of it, they dived the 4 by 4 to get rid of the x...but how did the 6 become 2?????

x/4=(x+5)/6
6x=(4x+20)
2x=20
x=10

I mean, some of those tunnels in NYC are like many many stories below ground.

This is also assuming the initial blast wasnt directly in the city, so fallen buildings and fire storms arent a major concern.

Would you be protected from the radiation and fall out. nevermind food or water.

In a hydraulic lift, the diameters of the pistons are 4.96 cm and 20.2 cm. A car weighing W = 10.4 kN is to be lifted by the force of the large piston. (a) What force Fa must be applied to the small piston? (b) When the small piston is pushed in by 10.4 cm, how far is the car lifted? (c) Find the mechanical advantage of the lift, which is the ratio W/Fa.

Any help would be appreciated... I'm just looking to understand the problem!

I don't believe the Universe started from a tiny speck.
I believe all Galaxies are racing away from each other
and as black holes increase in number and size
the gravity of the Galaxies increase, thus causing a
slight curvature of there paths, resulting in all Galaxies
paths curving around, and meeting at a central point
causing a big bang etc. etc,

bare with me here, this might seem little far out.

First off, our moon is really big considering the size of the earth and therefor has a significant amount of gravity. So the moon is pulling up on us a little bit every time the earth rotates.

now, gravity effects everything, even on the quantum scale. So if the moons gravity shifts every single particle on earth just a tiny tiny bit, those particles gain a tiny tiny bit of kinetic energy.

here's the kicker: when the particles return to their original state that kinetic energy becomes stored as potential energy.
my question is, where does all that energy go?

i'm saying maybe that stored potential energy is the fuel of our consciousness. maybe the moon is what makes us think!

now, if this were true, that means 'intelligent life' elsewhere would not only need H2O and a livable climate to progress, but also a gargantuan moon like our own. so maybe we really are alone in the universe!
