1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=45=123456789.....(2)
deduct (2)from(1) =864197532
add 8+6+4+1+9+7+5+3+2 = 45
therefore 45-45=45!!!!(from Indian mathematician Sakuntala devi)

How do you work the linear method out in this type of problem? I know how you work it out in a system of 2 problems, but I'm not sure about 3 equations.

Well now that pluto is history and has another name that I can't remember; what will they use to memorize the order of the planets???
Will it be, "My very educated mother just ate nine?"
And we will be left hanging for another word but we can't use pizzas because that used to stand for pluto......so i guess that saying is out the door now...

My brain is getting all twisted from trying to simplify algebra. I'll use a simple example:

4(3x-2)4*2

I understand that the distributive property has to be used here. We are taught to work from left to right by starting with parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and finally subtraction. Since doing the distributive property requires multiplication, shouldn't I be starting off with 4*3x and 4*-2? I know that's wrong, but I keep thinking it's the right way to go. Does anyone have any good tips that help in simplifying or some good rules that can stop me from making mistakes?
