i was told it is a term for three numbers in a digit separated by a comma. I thought this section of a number was called a "class"

It can me a decimal point like 2.5 or it can also be used to multiply (period is usually placed in the center between the 2 numbers at mid level).

It can mean a decimal, it can mean multiply. Show me some context in which you are using it.

If you mean . then I would say decimal point. If you mean a time frame then we are talking about something different.
