hey folks i'm stuck up with this experiment of simulating a crystal lattice using an electrical analogue-an electrical transmission line consisting of an array of L-C filters.kindly explain in the folllowing contexts:-
1]how does a low pass filter simulate a monoatomic lattice and a band pass does a diatomic lattice
2]explain the frequency response of the above two kinds of filters and correlate it to the concept of conjugate mass and reduced as obatined in expressions of dispersion relation for acoustical and optical branches

anyone know of a cheap material that can withstand temperature of 100+ degree C. I am trying to develope a new product for my cafe and one of its process requires steaming, the only 2 material that i can think of is paper and plastic... but then paper can't withstand high temperature and plastic migh release posionous chemicals in the process (that's what i was told). I am looking for something cheap so i can mass-order.

Any advise or suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Animals can't really talk to each other in the sense that humans can, but they can communicate danger, happiness, hunger etc. with different noises.

So, the question is: do donkeys and horses have the same 'language'? If not, are mules (offspring of a male donkey and female horse) bilingual?

Further to some answers recieved which insist its the gravitational pull of the moon.. GREAT, thats what we all have learned. That being the case, why doesnt this gravitational pull suck us up to the moon?? were made of mostly water are'nt we? do we feel any effects of this gravitational pull on our bodies?
I still feel there is some rocking of the earth going on.. Can you explain your gravitational pull with reference to smaller bodies of water, eg swimming pools? i think the rocking of the earth is caused by the earth wanting to go in one direction, (asteroid effect)and the moon pulling it in the other direction YES gravitational pull!! but with the rocking back and forths of the earth. But because earth is so huge we dont feel the rocking. Why is the earth still rotating on its axis millions of years after the Asteroid impact? theres got to be a more complex answer than simple gravity.. I think earth is rotating and rocking, somewhat like a continous vibration

I am currently presuing my doctorate. My subject area is solid state physics/ crystal structure.

I am looking to learn more about defects in crystals. I was wondering if it would be more prudent to take math class in topology to learn more about these defects than to take another class in solid state.

OR are there any other classes that any one can recoment. (or maybe just a book that I can study on my own)

(mind you I was also a math major, so a rigorous math class should be no problem for me)
