anyone know of a cheap material that can withstand temperature of 100+ degree C. I am trying to develope a new product for my cafe and one of its process requires steaming, the only 2 material that i can think of is paper and plastic... but then paper can't withstand high temperature and plastic migh release posionous chemicals in the process (that's what i was told). I am looking for something cheap so i can mass-order.

Any advise or suggestion would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

You also need to be concerned with weight, manufacture, cleaning, durability and appearances. Perhaps the plastic used in "steamers" within microwave ovens would work without releasing chemicals to the food. Likely they may not be used in a conventional oven; but ask. A plastics manufacturer should be consulted (after your patent is protected).

I'm not sure how inexpensive they are but there are ceramics out there that can withstand temperatures up to 2000 degrees. This is the same material they use in the Space shuttle.

There is also something they used called Q Felt (a lightweight but highly resistant to heat material), but I'm not sure if this is available to the public yet.

Ceramics can withstand very very high temperatures. That is what the Space Shuttle's heat shielding is made from. They are cheap and readily available.
