We are protesting plate tectonics. It is vital that we stop this atrocity known as continental drift. What if the continents collide, or worse, someone gets stuck between two plates pushing against each other? Someone could get hurt, like California. Will you join the picket line outside of the USGS headquarters on Saturday? I propose a party line of peaceful, nonviolent protest, though if people start throwing themselves between two of the seven major plates, I will not argue.

At what point in the food chain do organisms develop a cerebral cortex? Crusteaceans don't have one, nor do fish... all mammals do. What about lizards? Birds?

This may sound gross, but I have been interested in this for a while. Usually, people just say they would freeze, if not in the sun's direct light (or burn if they were), others claim they would suffocate from lack of oxygen, and still others claim that they would blow up from lack of pressure. Any help from an expert or expert sources would be useful. Thanks.

I'm making this up but this is the general idea. Scientists have now
proven that if you drink lots of water, it decreases your thirst temporarily.

I read this kind of crap all the time.

If the Earth were a perfect sphere with no atmosphere (only gravitational forces) and you are at the equator and facing directly spinward (i.e. toward the direction of rotation), and you fired a bullet directly upward, where would it land in relation to you? In front of you, behind you, or on your head?

For those of you who would actually like to do some math: If the bullet had a muzzle velocity of 500m/s, and the Earth has a rotational velocity of 465m/s at the equator, a uniform gravitational acceleration of 9.8m/s at all altitudes (for simplicity's sake), and a circumference of 40,000,000 meters... calculate the distance from you that it would land.
