I'm having some seriously sharp pains, like lightning bolts shooting in my vagina and pubic area, and a lot of pressure there as well, and heavier discharge than normal. I have a doctors appointment today, but what could this be? Should I ask her about it? Is this the beginnings of labor?

My g/f told me yesterday that she's pregnant. We've been dating for 5 years, I'm 27 and she's 31. We were being safe when we had sex, she was on the pill, but I guess it's not 100% effective.

I realize I'm old enough to be a father and I would def be responsible but I'm not at the point in my life right now where I want a kid to raise. I want to wait until I've a little further in my career. I love my g/f and I will support her but I'm not ready for a kid right now in any way!

She told me that she is def gonna keep it. I tried to talk to her about an abortion but she said that's out of the question.

Is there anything I can say, in a nice way of course, that would help convince her to see things my way?

thanx

I have been lactose intolerant since I was about 24 years old. Now I am 37 and I 7 months pregnant with my first baby.
I really want to breastfeed for as long as I can but I am concerned I could transmit my lactose intolerance to my baby?

I drink lactose free milk, but I read that I should avoid dairy all together?
How do I avoid transmiting my lactose intolerance to my baby and therefore improving my chances to breastfeed?

I've been trying to hard not to get a cold this winter but I failed... My immune system sucks as it is, and now that I'm pregnant it's even worse... I'm 20 weeks pregnant and really sick. Really stuffed up, sneezing, coughing like crazy, dizzy spells, feeling nauseous. I just want to make sure the baby is okay, I get this a lot I'm used to it... But if it's hurting the baby I'm NOT okay with that. Help?!

i'm 9 weeks pregnant me and the father aren't togeather. i just told him on christmas eve that i'm pregnant. i would like him to be involved with my pregnancy just as me. i asked him to come with me to my next doctor appointment but he just says he has to work. i asked him if he would like a ultrasound pic and he says that he don't want one. he has a 14 year old daughter with an ex wife and he is more worried on how his 14 year old is gonna react to this. christmas day he called me to see how me and baby are i thought it was sweet and that maybe he was taking some responsibilty. but he don't seem to really wanna get to involved at all. how can i make him realize that it's important before the child is born just as it after the child is here. should i just leave him alone and do this all alone. i'm scared and terrified.

a few months ago, i passed a quite large fleshly like material about 2 inches long while having my period. i am on the pill and didnt think i could have or was pregnant. the fleshly material was a pinkly colour. i went to the hospital and told the doctor what had happened, she ran 3 pregnancy tests on me and said there was no way i could have miscarriaged because my tests were coming up negative and that i was never pregnant. she wasnt very helpful and could not tell me what this fleshly material that i passed was, has this ever happend to anyone else?

anyone know how much the tax deduction is if you have a baby in '07? I'm being induced on jan 1st, so I want to know how much $$ I'm missing out on!

I am 25 1/2 wks. pregnant and had an ultrasound yesterday. They were concerned that my cervix wasn't as long as it should be at this stage, they said it was really short, and the baby's weight is now at 2 lbs., which was also a concern, they thought he is bigger than he should be. Has this ever happened to anyone else? They kept asking me if I've been having any contractions, which I haven't. They're worried I'll go into pre-term labor. I feel fine, haven't had any "strange" symptoms or anything. I'm thinking I should just take it easy til I can talk to my regular doc about this. Unfortunately for me, the office is closed today, so I'm hoping someone out there can give me some insight. Thanks!

I am considering being induced tomorrow, but I DO NOT want and epidural (fear of infection in spinal column...yes, it happens).

I just want to hear if anyone has had Pitocin but no epidural.

I'm 34 + 2 and for the past week or so, I have had bits of my plug coming out mixed with blood. I rang my labour ward and was told to do nothing, just wait it out and I should be in labour within a week. She said unless there is just blood on it's own without mucus then it's ok.

I also mentioned that twice this week, I have had really strong contractions every 3 mins for several hours. She was not concerned at all.

Is this normal? I would have thought she would have been worried as she says I should be in labour by 35 weeks! This is my second baby, first born at 37 weeks weighing 9lb12oz.

I'm 29 weeks along today, with my 1st, its a boy. I called yesterday and signed up for child birth classes...There are 3 classes 3 1/2 hours long. Well they only hold them in the evenings so my fiance wont be able to go sense he works 2nd shift...my mom is going to go with me..which is nice because she will be in the room with me also when I have him. I'm just kind of upset because he cant be there. I dont want people thinking I dont have a father for my baby. Am I just being stupid?

I just had my daughter 2 1/2 months ago. I had an emergency c-section after 2 1/2 days of labor. I couldn't dilate past a 2, even with having my water broke. Found out my pelvic bone is too narrow for a baby to fit through (baby was avg sz). When I asked about future kids, my doctor STRONGLY insisted a scheduled c-section. .

My question is this... When I get pregnant next time, will a midwife be willing to accept a patient who will definitely be getting a c-section? I am not willing to attempt a VBAC as my doctor (who was strongly in favor of natural birth at the beginning) was very determined in his warnings against it due to my pelvic bone. The doctor that delivered my baby was AWESOME, but he is about to relocate. I've heard so many wonderful stories about midwives and would love to be in one's care for my next pregnancy.

Advice or experience would definitely be helpful!

doctor wants to induce me next Friday (I'll be 41 weeks then). I'm worried about being induced because I hear it is more painful, more risk of cesarean (I've already had 2 surgeries in the past year and a half and I DON'T want another!) They have not even done a nonstress test or an ultrasound to check the baby. It is just routine for them to induce at 41 weeks. Will this be ok? Should I trust my doctor?

I was at my first doctor first yesterday and during my examination he said my uterus was pushed back, which is bad, but it was enlarged as well, which is good.
What does he mean? He suggested an ultra-sound after the exam. I'm eight weeks along.
