I am 25 1/2 wks. pregnant and had an ultrasound yesterday. They were concerned that my cervix wasn't as long as it should be at this stage, they said it was really short, and the baby's weight is now at 2 lbs., which was also a concern, they thought he is bigger than he should be. Has this ever happened to anyone else? They kept asking me if I've been having any contractions, which I haven't. They're worried I'll go into pre-term labor. I feel fine, haven't had any "strange" symptoms or anything. I'm thinking I should just take it easy til I can talk to my regular doc about this. Unfortunately for me, the office is closed today, so I'm hoping someone out there can give me some insight. Thanks!

I'm not stressing over it, I mean, my first pregnancy was fine, I delivered my daughter a week early with a perfectly normal pregnancy. And I know "my own doctor knows best", I just want to know what others have experienced, complications etc.

First, congratulations on your baby!
Your cervix may indeed be effacing (shortening) and if this is the case, you may need to go on bedrest or have a cerclage performed (sew it closed to prevent early birth). OR you may just have a short cervix- you said it's your second baby? So maybe things just are "normal" for you.
I'd get the diabetes thing tested- if baby is big that is usually why. If not, maybe it's just a large baby.
As for pre-term labor, I had contractions about 1 min long every 2 min in my 6th month and didn't really even feel it (micro-contractions they said, but that they could've developed into regular contractions had we let them continue). Try not to lift anything over like 10 lbs and really limit yourself as far as activity- kind of a self-imposed half-bedrest as a preventative.
Take a deep breath and a bubble bath. I'm sure things will be fine. You're doing all you can do- worrying won't help anything.
Blessings to you.

a short cervix during pregnancy is called an incompetant cervix. If your cervix is short, there is a great possibility you will start dilating as the baby puts more pressure on it. Most likely they will perform a cerclage. It is a procedure where they put a couple of stitches in your cervix to hold it shut, and then remove them when you are term. I had one done at 14 weeks. They did a spinal block. I didn't feel a thing. Even afterwards, I didn't have pain or anything. Try to stay off your feet as much as possible and call the dr. as soon as they are open again. This is a very important matter.

Ok sweetie here we go. Everyone's body is different obviously, so what they may be seeing is perfectly normal for you. Though it still raises my attention, I would just stay calm because getting all stressed out won't help the situation at all. So if you say you feel fine, take it easy and keep on going as though there was nothing said about it. I would surely set an appt and see you doctor tomorrow, that way he can do a physical exam and see what is really going on and what to do about it. Just stay calm and positive in the meantime. Everything is going to be alright! :) Hang in there!

well my little men were always bigger than what the drs thought. My first was born a month early and was 8 pounds and my second was 2 months early and weighed 5 pounds. he was the biggest baby in the nicu! If you do go into pre-term I will tell you the NICU drs and nurses are amazing!! Good Luck!!

My kids weighed at birth 10lb,9,9,and 7. THey were all really good sizes! So dont worry! enjoy your pregnancy!

Your own doctor knows things that WE cannot know, and you should wait till you can talk to him.
