I was at my first doctor first yesterday and during my examination he said my uterus was pushed back, which is bad, but it was enlarged as well, which is good.
What does he mean? He suggested an ultra-sound after the exam. I'm eight weeks along.

I don't need your opinions, on the first visit you are so over-whemled with other questions and things that are told to you. Don't answer with your thoughts , I was just looking for smart, respectful people to give me their input...not you!!

by being pushed back, he probably meant that it was tilted, which is not a bad thing, your uterus will tilt back to normal. I have the same problem, and my uterus straightened out by 10 weeks. Being enlarged is normal for pregnancy, your uterus is going to stretch and get bigger! good luck!

Did he say "pushed back" or retroverted? If pushed, by what exactly?

It seems to me that he has used the wrong language when discussing this with you. Its up to him to be clearer so that you don't come away from the appointment thoroughly confused.

If you have a retroverted uterus, the baby may well lie on the bowel and make life a bit uncomfortable for you while pregnant. Make sure you get a thorough explanation from him at your next appointment especially if he feels that you may encounter any difficulties. When you have the ultrasound, you should at least take someone with you so that you can both visualise the situation and both listen to what is said. Compare notes afterwards.

The uterus pushed back means that the opening is more toward the back of your sping instead of the front which could make delivery naturally difficult. Make sure you ask him specifically what that means as I could be wrong.

The doctor shouldnt have presumed that you knew what he meant by all of his doctor speak darling, so dont mind the petty people being nasty by answering here. You do get so overwelmed that you have so much to ask that you can only think of questions AFTER you leave the doctors!

have you had your ultrasound yet? if so how did it go?

Your probably tilted. Its not bad, I dont know what he's freaking out about. A lot of women are tilted. It just means its harder to feel your cervix, and its harder to know when you've progressed into delivery.

You're fine.

You should have asked him what he meant by this. You should have asked him to explain to you what this means.
