I just had my daughter 2 1/2 months ago. I had an emergency c-section after 2 1/2 days of labor. I couldn't dilate past a 2, even with having my water broke. Found out my pelvic bone is too narrow for a baby to fit through (baby was avg sz). When I asked about future kids, my doctor STRONGLY insisted a scheduled c-section. .

My question is this... When I get pregnant next time, will a midwife be willing to accept a patient who will definitely be getting a c-section? I am not willing to attempt a VBAC as my doctor (who was strongly in favor of natural birth at the beginning) was very determined in his warnings against it due to my pelvic bone. The doctor that delivered my baby was AWESOME, but he is about to relocate. I've heard so many wonderful stories about midwives and would love to be in one's care for my next pregnancy.

Advice or experience would definitely be helpful!

Midwives are great, but I haven't heard of any that perform c-sections. I was suppose to have my baby natural and because I wouldn't dilate past an 8 after 35 hours of labor, I had to have a c-section a month ago. The midwife was the one that had been there through to labor, but when it came time to do the c-section another doctor had to do it. She did, however, assist. So, I know for sure they do help with the c-sections, but not sure if they perform them.

If your pelvis is too narrow or the wrong shape, you MUST have a section next time. If not, you risk not being able to deliver a live baby. Sorry to sound so dramatic, but you must schedule a c-section because the alternative is so ghastly, and I won't give details here unless you specifically ask.

In the UK, you are always under the care of your local midwife, until you are admitted to the hospital, when their staff take over. Its always a shame to have to have different surgeons for section, but if you ask your surgeons secretary for referral to a colleague of his that he would recommend, you'll get the best.

Phone your midwives as you should be under someone's care until delivery anyway. If you are in NZ the midwives are lovely and will care for your needs until you are due to go in. Just ask them.

You could probably see a midwife and the practicing doctor in the same hospital. I know that i went to a midwife for my whole pregnancy and she was going to go on vacation adn the dr would have delivered instead of her(i had my son 2 days before she took her vacation). So i dont think it would be any different. You will have to talk to a midwife to know for sure. But i dont see why not.

You'd have to contact a midwife to find out if you can use one. A certified nurse midwife may be able to help you throughout pregnancy and before your C-section. Or you may want to see if there are doulas in your area that could help you, especially in your home after the birth.

Many women who have a c-section are able to have vaginal deliveries following a c-section but it sounds to me like you have a physical condition that makes you a high risk pregnancy for a vaginal delivery. You trust the doctor who delivered your baby by c-section and you say he is about to relocate. If I were you, I would ask him to reccommend someone for your next child. Good Luck.
