Good name or not so much?

Baby's dad and I are not together. He feels that in order to have any "validity" to baby, that baby should have his last name or that it should be hypenated. He states that no one will know it is his or if he dies there is no tie to baby if baby does not have his last name.

I feel that since I will be the primary caregiver and will be living with me 2 hours from him that having my last name is more appropriate. Not to mention, he has done nothing for baby during my pregnancy except my life more stressful by picking fights and not following through on anything he says he is going to do (i.e. help pay for baby necessities).

Additionally, he feels that baby should be baptised Catholic (his religion) and I feel Lutheran (mine) as will be primary caregiver.

What do you think? What would you do? Why?
Especailly want answers from guys...as I don't understand the male sex. Thanks!

my baby is almost 6 weeks old and i am having to suplement about 3 to 4 ounces of formula each feeding. i have been working with a lactation consultant and i am on the reglan and taking mothers milk plus and drinking the raspberry leaf tea , also i am pumping but only like once or twice a day. i am only producing about and ounce and a half of breast milk , at least thats what the scales said last time when we weighed her before and after each feeding. does anyone know how much of the tea i should drink? or what else i can do to produce more milk?

My newborn baby is about 2 months old and he hardly sleeps during the day or night. Is this normal? I thought babies were supposed to sleep more. Is there anyway we can help him to sleep more?

My 8 month old daughter hasn't really been around her father since she was about 2 months. She wasn't around him much even at that time. She went with him for about 2 hours the other night, and ever since then she has been really insecure. She won't let me out of her sight unless my dad is there. Should I let her go with her dad again? Should I be really concerned about this new insecurity of hers?

Whenever he falls asleep....and mostly we notice this at night because it's quiet......he makes soooo many different noises, grunts and different breathing patterns and snorts and all sorts of things. Is this typical of newborns? And when do they stop doing this? Also he's been waking up at about 2am then 5am then like 7am.....then it seems he wants to eat like every 1 1/2 to 2hrs during the day. Will that ever end. Or am I offering him the breast too often? We do try everything else before that....then sometimes he only nurses for about 5 minutes......is he just a fast eater? His longest feedings only last about 15 minutes and only on one breast....he only does one at a time? Is that ok??? He's getting enough...his 1st appt. (the 2wk one) he had already gained 2pnds!!!! Any advice on all of this would help. Thanks!!!!!

My baby is 4 months old (on the 19th) and he's already grabbing things, playing with his feet, talking and making noises and he knows his name. Now, I've heard the myth that if your firstborn learn real fast you're pregnant with another one. Has anyone heard of that myth?

No one has ever directly smoked around our 3 month old, we won't even take her to restaurants that have a smoking section, only non smoking restaurants however his family smokes...is it true that if they hold her after smoking the chemicals on their clothes can harm our daughter??? How do you handle that situation? Telling people they can't hold her if they smoke?

I am soon going back to work and will be working nights so will not be able to nurse my son before bedtime. He is a little over 11 months and we both enjoy the night time feed. I was hoping someone could lend some advice on how I should be transitioning him to something other than breast milk. He takes bottles and formula well so I'm not worried about that so much, I guess more the attachment. Some helpful advice would be great. Thanks to everyone who responds.

I don't let him do this unless I'm right there. I wait till he falls asleep and then take it away. It's just one of those little square soft cudely things... He loves to smash everything against his face when he falls asleep though.

What age do you not have to worry about them sleeping with a blanket??
