I am soon going back to work and will be working nights so will not be able to nurse my son before bedtime. He is a little over 11 months and we both enjoy the night time feed. I was hoping someone could lend some advice on how I should be transitioning him to something other than breast milk. He takes bottles and formula well so I'm not worried about that so much, I guess more the attachment. Some helpful advice would be great. Thanks to everyone who responds.

His last feed of the night is after his bath at about 830 and sleeps until 830am through the night. I will be working 4pm-12am...

Whether you give him formula or BM in a bottle (preferrably breastmilk) you should simply start having whoever will be caring for him at night give him his bottles. Have him (I'm assuming daddy) keep the night time routine and just prepare him his bottle.

I began working 8:00 pm to 4:30 am when my son was about 7 months old. I was also worried about that last night time feeding and attachment. But to my surprise, it was no problem. In my case, my son was already attending a back up day care on site at my work so he was given the bottle by caregivers other than myself. I pump while at work still. He is now 10 months and still nursing or taking bm bottles. I don't think the transition will be so bad.

This is my advice to you since he is 11 month old you should start winging him off and what you can do is pump your milk out and put it in a cup and have him drink from that cup and you don't have to nurse him any more. you need to start from now and start training him early. And this might help you in the long run. When my daughter was 11 month I waited to late but she was a year old I start training with a cup when she started to go to bed and every where we went she had a cup no more bottles. It help out very much. I hope you have good luck on the train. Good luck

I guess it depends on what time night time feeding is done at and what time you start work...

If you can do a last feed and pop baby into bed before you head off to work then that should work, but depending on what time you start you may want to give a last feed just before you walk out the door.
At 11 months baby shouldnt be waking up through the night for feeds and you should have a sleeping pattern established so fitting in with that shouldnt be to hard to figure out.

Good luck

Keep the rest of the bedtime routine the same. A few days before weaning day, start offering a snack, then the breast. As it gets closer, do the snack then the bottle or sippy cup.

Slowly start replacing BM bottles with more Formula bottles each week. So for instance week 1 you have 5 BM bottles, week two should be 1 or 2 formula bottles and the rest BM bottles.
Week 3 - 2 or 3 formula bottles and 2 BM bottles, and continue until all are formula bottles.

I don't think you have to wean completely if you are not comfortable with that thought. BF is recommended beyond one year anyway.

Can you try distracting in the night with a back rub, drink, cuddle? I think over time these distractions will diminish and the sleep will be extended. this is what worked in our home. good luck to you!

Booby pump. Booby milk is best for baby. :) However, 11 months old? Time for a change anyhow.
