An American was on Question Time last week and he said that nowhere in Europe did a political party resemble the Repulicans in terms of what they stand for - church involvement, pro guns etc - I was just wondering if a party did take the same stance as the Republicans would you vote for them?

I keep reading this piece of ridiculous propaganda and I why people would believe it.

The basic propaganda is:

After the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which the majority of Democrats from the North and South opposed, some Democrats left the Democratic party and became Republicans.

Historically the Republicans have always been the Anti-Slavery, Pro-Civil Rights party.

Historically Democrats have always been the Pro-Slavery, Anti-Civil-Rights party.

Why would Democrats, supposedly those who opposed the Civil Rights Act, leave the Historically Anti-Civil-Rights party and join the Historically Pro-Civil-Rights party?

I don't understand how anyone could believe that.

here may have been one or two Congressional Democrats who opposed the Civil Rights Act in 1964 and who joined the Republican Party, but, certainly not the majority of Anti-Civil-Rights Democrats in Congress.

Why believe this obvious propaganda?

Thanks.

And how can we achieve it? Clearly we can't go from country to country wiping out all governments that house terrorists, can we? And don't just say "A safer world" or "Kill all the terrorists", I'm talking about more specific goals.

THE WHITE HOUSE
Office of the Press Secretary
________________________________________
For Immediate Release August 20, 1998
ADDRESS TO THE NATION BY THE PRESIDENT

The Oval Office
5:32 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Good afternoon. Today I ordered our Armed Forces to strike at terrorist-related facilities in Afghanistan and Sudan because of the imminent threat they presented to our national security.
I want to speak with you about the objective of this action and why it was necessary. Our target was terror. Our mission was clear -- to strike at the network of radical groups affiliated with and funded by Osama bin Laden, perhaps the preeminent organizer and financier of international terrorism in the world today.

I would encourage them to flee. We don't want them living here anyway. It would be a good way for us to cleanse our polluted population.

CARACAS (Reuters) - A video of a Gucci- and Louis Vuitton-clad politician attacking capitalism then struggling to explain how his luxurious clothes square with his socialist beliefs has become an instant YouTube hit in Venezuela.

Venezuelan Interior Minister Pedro Carreno was momentarily at a loss for words when a journalist interrupted his speech and asked if it was not contradictory to criticize capitalism while wearing Gucci shoes and a tie made by Parisian luxury goods maker Louis Vuitton.

"I don't, uh ... I ... of course," stammered Carreno on Tuesday before regaining his composure.

Apparently he claims that America's involvement with and backing of Israel is causing the turmoil with the middle east and we should just gather all of our troops and military presense all over the world and bring it back home but we also should let Israel take care of Israel's problems. How do you feel about that especially if you are a conservative?

When a republican talks about Christianity or what they believe they are attacked in the media like senator Mike Hukabee was someone called him a cave man. When a dem is using religion in a speech he is not attacked by the media like Obama was or John Edwards.

I remember the last time oil moved, they were drilling all over the place. I know where tons of gas and oil is. A friend is stting on one of the biggest here and 20 years ago they could not get the oil as it was a tight formation. now with directional drilling and all the other stuff you would thing they would go and get these resources

It does not make sense, before they would drill wildcats that hit like one in 18, now very few. Does not make sense with the price of oil. I figure something to do with politics.

i know that years ago they drilled and then it went down and the majors took over tons of the smaller ones, only a few made it. It's strange with all these areas with all the seismic and info and locations. the friends deal has 5 lines of recorded info and on emore to go with a major oil company. Why would they not jump on this?

CORALVILLE, Iowa - It was a blunt question for Hillary Rodham Clinton at the end of a long campaign day. A young man said he knew a lot of people who just didn't like her, and he wanted to know what she could do about it.

"It goes straight to the perception that she is cold, calculating and devoid of human warmth," said Dennis Goldford, professor of political science at Drake University in Des Moines. "Many Democrats either believe those things are true or they know people who believe them to be true, and that speaks to concerns about her electability."
