Apparently he claims that America's involvement with and backing of Israel is causing the turmoil with the middle east and we should just gather all of our troops and military presense all over the world and bring it back home but we also should let Israel take care of Israel's problems. How do you feel about that especially if you are a conservative?

PD hit the nail right on the head that Israel's supposd to be an active aly in the Middle East but all their getting is a lot of free aid. In addition the Jewish lobby is a fomidable and well organized force in Washington. Yes Israel could take of herself, however, Washington's hands are inextricably tied, in regards to Israel.

I don't know about 300 nukes, but Israel does have an unconfirmed number of nukes. And yes, Israel is a big boy now, and it can take care of itself if needed, and it's done that before by taking out an Iraqi nuclear reactor during Saddam's rule.

So, yes, Ron Paul is right. Israel can and will take care of itself.

he said the U.S. should stop backing Israel? as in completely cutting them off? that would be really dangerous. in the 80's Israel threatened to bomb Saudi oil fields over some minor issue. There is a real possible chance they could go caveman on the Mideast. i don't know.... it's a good idea in principle but Israel being able to take care of themselves was never the issue. maybe a reduction in aid with more constraints and requiring them to adhere to international law would be a more practical solution.

One of the reasons we are so supportive of Israel is that we do not want them to be in a position where they will use their nukes. If they did it would cause us and the world even more problems.

At least that number. Israel will take care of their country. I'm not a conservative, but I remember Israel attacking the USS Liberty in 1967 to keep us from finding out was they were up to. We lost a number of sailors for that "error".

I don't know if our relationship with Israel is either good or bad.

I do know that since AIPAC has been in existence we have given (the last I read) 254 billion dollars to Israel.

I do think that they can take care of themselves. I also agree with Dr. Paul in that our dough means that they are our (not his words) slaves.

Israel is nuclear and can fight for itself. They'd have bombed Iran a year or so ago if it were not for our meddling.

Your urinating avatar is disgusting.

Sure it was funny for a week (back in 1993) but now it is just plain LAME.

Israel is the size of NJ. A strategic nuclear attack of maybe 2-3 nukes could render it incapable of doing anything. Without countries like the US as an ally, it is quite vulnerable, as it is surrounded by countries that for the last 50 years have been trying to destroy them. I know they're a thorn in our side, but telling them to fend for themselves could easily become their death sentence. 300 nukes is impressive and potent; but they'd have to launch to be effective. Imagine a quick attack knocking out some aspect of their capability to use them (satellites, radar systems, power systems) and they become useless.

300 nukes is enough for even the USA as a deterrent, It is clear that any unprovoked attack on Israel would be suicidal, and therefore is very unlikely.

Israel does not need any more US. tax payers money.
