Didn't they promise to stop this way of doing things?

WASHINGTON, Oct. 26 — Shortly after winning a majority last year, Democrats triumphantly declared that they would put Congress back to work, promising an “end to the two-day workweek.” And indeed, the House has clocked more time in Washington this year than in any other session since 1995, when Republicans, newly in control, sought to make a similar point.

But 10 months into the session, with their legislative agenda often in gridlock with the Bush administration and a big election year looming, the Democrats are now planning a lighter schedule when the 110th Congress begins its second year in mid-January.

The House majority leader, Representative Steny H. Hoyer of Maryland, told fellow Democrats this week that the House would not be in session next year on Fridays, except in June...

That story simply vanished but the question remains: how a did an active gay male prostitute without any journalistic credentials get a white house press pass?

Secret service records show he visited the White House hundreds of times over two years-sometimes overnight. What really WAS going on?

MAFRA (Portugal) - RUSSIA'S President Vladimir Putin drew a parallel between United States plans for a missile shield in Europe and the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, widely regarded as the closest the world came to nuclear war.
But the Kremlin leader added on Friday that his personal friendship with US President George W. Bush has helped to prevent the latest US initiative from turning into a new global disaster.

'I would remind you how relations were developing in an analogous situation in the middle of the 1960s,' he told a news conference after the Russia-EU summit in the Portugal.

'Analogous actions by the Soviet Union when it deployed rockets on Cuba provoked the Cuban missile crisis,' Mr Putin added.

'For us, technologically, the situation is very similar. On our borders such threats to our country are being created.'
A decision by the Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev to send nuclear missiles to Communist ally Cuba put the world on the brink of nuclear war in 1962

I am a liberal in high school, and have just begun to take an interest in politics. I was recently debating a conservative friend of mine (Yes, I have some), and when I said that health care costs are out of control, and too many people are uninsured, and that the government should pay for healthcare so that nobody would go without it, he came back with some pretty difficult points to refute. I would really like to know, how should I come back to these?...

1) The private sector is more efficient than the government, compare countries with planned economies with ours and they come up short.

2) The reason that costs are so high is because doctors don't have to compete for patients, because insurance companies pay for it all, so they can overcharge and most people don't know, except for the unlucky few without insurance.

These are just 2 of his points. Please help me with some refutes to these so I can debate him!

Equality to the very degree that we all are paid equally, regardless of job or rank, we are equal, regardless of race, sex, age, etc and we could elimiate this idea of competition and the idea that people are more important than others because nobody is "better" than another person. We are all just people. Why should we live otherwise? Why should some people struggle to survive while others have money to burn? How is that fair?

The Bush administration and New York cut a deal Saturday to create a new generation of super-secure driver's licenses for U.S. citizens, but also allow illegal immigrants to get a version.

New York is the fourth state to reach such an agreement on federally approved secure licenses, after Arizona, Vermont and Washington. The issue is pressing for border states, where new and tighter rules are soon to go into effect for crossings.

The deal comes about one month after New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced a plan whereby illegal immigrants with a valid foreign passport could obtain a license.

Not too many people care when they kill a roach. Not too many people think past eww, or it's dead. Is a roach the same as the living cells inside this woman who may abort her growing baby? What about for the woman who will bare her baby? Are the growing cells comparable to vermin to pro-abortionists, and those who commit abortion?

Most know Iraq was a mistake. Innocent people are dying, our brothers, sisters, husbands and wives are coming home in body bags. Kids and innocent Iraqis are in the crossfire. We spend billions in blood money, and cant take care of ourselves. Once looked up to now we are despised. Our healthcare is sickening in itself. Are you trying to change things? Do you care? Organize in schools, churches or any meeting places. Look up the facts and act. So my question is who really cares? And whos all talk.

Is it because the right likes the war and doesn't mind the increase in taxes needed and the Democrats don't mind paying taxes but hate the war. So both sides argue about the war but neither is saying anything about the need to raise US taxes to pay for it?
