What political persuasion are you?

The top 5% of wealthy households in this country control 59% of the wealth (~$18 trillion). If the government confiscated half of their wealth, and redistributed it evenly to the poorest 95% of American households, each household would receive approximately $200,000. Then nobody would be poor, right?

Assuming the above situation, comment on the following:

Economically, what is wrong with this solution to poverty?

Morally, what is wrong with this solution to poverty?

Speculatively, how do you foresee the 'wealth gap' 25 years after the hypothetical "Great Redistribution"? In other words, after every family was provided a more than adequate chance at prosperity, would poverty exist 25 years hence?

... or will they hold their word and actually respect secularism and freedom in their society? Because they claim to be ammending the constituion to join the European Community as soon as possible... But is there a threat of falling back into arbitrary Islamic rule? Both of them, (almost) president and Prime Minister ade Islamists... What do you think?

if you've ever done drugs and learned your lesson you can't ever advise someone else not to do drugs. If you've ever been arrested you cant ever tell someone else not to break the law? meanwile its perfectly alright to get rich off tax payers money while you complain that small businesses aren't paying their workers enough, or we have to pay more taxes to they can help the poor while skimming off the top.

This might be in the wrong section but let's give it a shot.

Here is a snap shot of Rome just as they were about to fall:

War with Persia (Iran) over the real estate between the Tigris and the Euphrates.

Endemic outsourcing of labor

Huge trade gaps

Huge wage gaps

A Populace no longer willing to defend their enjoyed freedoms (save a few brave souls)

More concerned with chariot races then the state of the failing empire (think Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan)

Problems with stopping unwanted border crossings (one of those crossers, The Goths, sacked Rome in 410).

Politicians no longer cared for the needs or wants of the people.

More concerned with Christianity then proper governing

And the people were beyond apathetic

If this is what Rome looked like just before it fell, and the US is doing the same, are we not headed for the same fate as the Romans if we the people do not stand up and take our country back from the Dems, Repubs, and Corporations?

Many more benefits and much help goes to those that we say are "in poverty" today.

Think about how hard an average family's life was in 1960. People at the poverty cut-off today aren't much worse off than an average American was in 1960. Right?

What clothes do poor kids wear to school today? What did your relatives wear in 1960? How well did the car work? Medical care for a poor person is light-years better than it was in 1960. Example: There were no heart bypass operations.

Why is that my buddy Gral Noriega is still at prison?
He , as me, was a loyal soldier of USA and its President G. Bush senior. His nets of drugs traffic were very useful during our struggle against Sandinistas.Our death squads were very useful to Colonel Ollie North.Why is that USA abandoned US? I`m also jailed,sentenced for crimes against humanity,for the rst of my life.Why , USA, Why?

Within the last year the gang related crimes have increased in the United States from being on the decrease back in 2003. In some cities, such as Hartford, Connecticut, gang related crimes were so bad, that the police department had to bring in state troopers to assist the department. I don't know if anyone knows anything about the bay area, but in Oakland the gang related incidents are so bad, that it's difficult for the city to recruit police officers even with an offered salary of 100k. My question is, how can America try to control terrorist and Al Qaeda, when we can't even control American street gangs?

Many just dismiss the good argument that you present and call you a commie, socialist, stupid, say that you are on welfare etc. I have a job, I pay taxes, I would NEVER burn an American flag, I follow laws, I went to college, I am not a communist or socialist along with many other liberals. Why do Conservatives say these unreasonable things that are not true about moderate liberals? Sure there are some crazy, extremist left wingers out there just as there are some crazy, extremist left wingers. I am a liberal but it does not mean I believe in being lazy or uneducated. I support Israel, I do not want illegal aliens in our country, conspiracy theorist or a flag burner. People who make stereotypes like that tear this country apart.

They believe that racism, stereotyping, and discrimination are wrong. Yet they still act rascit towards white people, but if you are racist towards blacks they'll be all over you. Whats up with that? Pease give me your point if veiw.

I think the context of this question is simple. How often do you take a certain side on an issue just because the announcer came from your camp?

So honestly now, in some alternate universe with leprechauns, vampires, and aliens, George W. Bush delivers the same message Al Gore did to make 100 million dollars off the public, in the same manner, with all the same bright lights and pretty pictures.
