First off, I mean a conservative in the literal sense of saving money, not a social conservative.

I know there's a lot of liberals on here, but I think what Washington needs most now is someone who's not afraid to stop unnecessary spending. We need a President who doesn't care about what his party thinks. Furthermore, he needs to veto things left and right (literally and figureatively) to cut the pork-barrel spending that goes on daily. If we want to keep all the great social service programs the government offers, we need accountability. Problem is, noone in Washington is accountable.....

Ok, im from Australia and to be honest, i dont care about the war... Australia is a happy go lucky counbtry and i love it here - i will never move. My question for you is this... our Aussie government is using tax payers money to get our "australian dual citizens" back home from Lebanon. I think its a disgrace. If you want to move o'seas and want that life, then stay. We dont want you back. I am not working 40 hours a week so unloyal citizens can get a free flight home. Who agrees with me? My friends think im cold hearted and being very "unaustralian"?? What do you think! Thanks!!! Peace out!

In the land of alleged free speech, it seems more and more like it isn't.

Let's see...you can't call people retarded, you can't laugh at people with Tourette's, you can't tell the truth about various ethnic groups, you can't joke around about certain stuff, even say the words because it's against the law, celebrities and politicians get into trouble for making a statement and it becomes a national outrage, especially that one on the Colbert show who joked about cocaine and hookers...even though it was petty, you can't say anything about disabled people...

It's insane, North Korea must envy our unofficial totalitarian approach to speech...stop taking everything seriously!

I wonder how many Americans would willingly eliminate the 1st amendment, our right to free speech?

This country is guilty of false advertisement. People overseas, especially in Australia, seem to exercise and appreciate their right to free speech better than Americans...

It's disappointing.

Since neither of the two dominant parties seem to care about the good of the country over the good of their party wouldn't it make sense to vote an independant in to office?

Our forefathers (you know, the guys who had the great idea about a free country to begin with) warned us about political parties. Instead of trusting their wisdom we created two parties almost immediately anyway.

Bearing that in mind, wouldn't it make sense to at least try a couple of independants? Could the possibly do any worse than any of our last three Presidents have done. If you were to consider voting independant who would you like to see run and why?

(If you don't know what you are talking about or if you don't vote anyway, please don't answer)

I see it almost every time I log in now. Some neoconservative dismisses something he disagrees with by saying, "I bet your college professor told you that", or words to that effect. Clearly this implies that the person making this statement believes that no educator or intellectual can be a reliable source of information. Why do you suppose they feel this way?

they're going to push for a minimum wage increase. and, conveniently, right in time for an election!
everyone get ready for the class war to begin. I'm really not trying to be mean, but that's what I see coming. I live in a state where minumum wage is far above the national standard, and guess what, the cost of living is higher! So go figure!
