From your posting I am guessing that you don't know much about the Carter administration. Carter was seriously despised when he was a president and the butt of many jokes, as he didn't really do anything right. It was not until he got out of office (he disappeared for while)that he re-appeared as a humanitarian. It took him at least 15 years or so, to really garner much respect from the average American. The Bush family has always been involved in humanitarian efforts, they just don't beat a drum about it.

I see a lot of similarities between President G.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter. Neither one will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents, but both are decent men. I wouldn't be surprised to see him doing humanitarian work later on. Laura does already, and so do former President George H.W. Bush and his wife. I don't see how any president could devote any real time to charitable activities and effectively carry out his duties as president at the same time. Dubya isn't afraid of hard work.

Jimmy Carter will go down as perhaps the worst U.S. President of the 20th Century and he is certainly the worst ex-president ever. He is trying to alter this fact by his "humanitarian work" now because he knows what a short memory-span a lot of Americans have and probably thinks everyone will forget how bad he was.

Funny how someone (debra) can misspell humanitarian when it's on the screen above you :))...
Anyway, No I don't see bush doing habitat type work when he is done being President. He's just wired differently than Carter. Carter, I think, feels guilty... what with how hugely successful his peace work has been in the middle east...

This question got me laughing. Bush, humanitarian work? That's really funny.
Then I read the post by 'QED' about the orange jump suit and laughed even harder (good one, bro').
Then I read the post by 'foster' and had another belly laugh: how twisted by hate can people get? Questioning Carter's record as president I get, though I don't agree that he was a bad one. Questioning his standing as an ex-presideent sounds hysterical in all senses of the word.

They are two totally different people. Can you imagine Osama bin Laden, in a few years time, doing the type of humanitarian work Carter is doing now? I'm talking about Osama when the war is over.

No...not really and I'm a Bush fan. He's just not that type. And neither were 41 other presidents. Carter is a rare duck indeed.

No. But, even if he did try, I don't think that anyone would take him seriously. Carter had a record for trying to work with the world collectively to solve problems and currently Bush does not have that reputation.

You have to be joking, Dubya has never been any thing but an over the hill frat boy! He'll go back to Crawford, play at cutting brush, ride his bike and still be the same snarky little whelp he always has been.
A humanatarian Bush is as unlikely as Saddam getting Born again!

Can you imagine Bush letting American hostages sit for 444 days?
Can you imagine Bush leading us to 20% home loans?
Carter, nice Guy, crappy president.
