Pakistan was a part of India. When independence was granted the Muslims wanted and were given sections of the country as the majority populations. In most states this was simple.. In "princely states" the local ruler was given the power to choose. The rulers in Kashmir were Hindu, and the population was majority Muslim. The rulers chose India. The people didn't accept it, Pakistan and India went to war and the area was split along a cease fire line. Most of the area is in India.

So it is part of both. The K in Pakistan stands for Kashmir. Neither side can or will compromise. Both will draw their maps showing it their way.

Kashmir is always the part of india, as it was amalgamated with before 1947. There are some people or terrorist who are free from other parts from the globe, and the pakistan government as well who keep saying this, that Kashmir is a disputed land. They all have ther personal interests. They have nothing to do with freedom of Kashmir. Even the people of Kashmir know it.
