well... that depends...

you are going on order of the president and congress... so in that way... yes you are... fighting on the behalf of the people that we elected...

But in another way... I don't think Iraq was a threat to the U.S.... I think it would be hard to make an argument that Iraq was a threat, since they had very few terror links and no real WMD... but you may be fighting for their country... but that's not what you asked...

Whether one approves of the current administration or not the fact of the matter is that George Bush was elected President and thus is your Commander in Chief. As such he has called you to action to serve your country and as a soldier bound by the oath you took upon enlistment, you are obligated to serve wherever and in whatever capacity the Commander in Chief sees fit.

Regardless of how anyone who responds to your question views your service as either fighting for your country or fighting for the people of Iraq is irrelevant. The only viewpoint that is relevant is your own. What seems to be a more relavent question for you to put to others is, "If I honor my enlistment commitment by serving in Iraq, will you support me". The answer to that is unequivacally - YES!

I'm sick and tired of hearing people say that you can't claim to support our troops unless you support the decisions made by the Commander in Chief. I did not support the war in Vietnam but I challenge anyone to suggest that I didn't support my father and all the men and women who served in that war. Moreover, I have and always will support our military during times of crisis AND times of peace. Where were these patriots of convenience over the years when the military has repeatedly pointed out the need for technological improvement, training, better pay and benefits, etc?

You made the decision to serve. You can trust that I for one will support, honor, and respect your decision if for no other reason than an undying sense of gratitude for your mere willingness to sign up to serve. In the meantime you can trust that I won't let you down in the performance of my duty as a citizen to insure that the decisions this administration has made in the past and continues to make dignifies the commitment you and others were willing to make to the service of this country that might put you in harms way.

Yes.... you would be fighting for the United States. Now, I bet you are asking how am I fighting for the US. Simple, oil....and the united states needs a lot of gas for our economy to work...and the only thing that will change this fact is a demand for different transportation. Sadly the United States needs to work on how we transport goods and ourselves to other places
...trains...planes...autos..plastics.. just to name a few of the things people use daily.. all depend on oil. As far as the plastics go we could always go back to glass... I get off the soapbox..yep you will be fighting for my way of life...thanks... but if I could buy a electric car that was either powered by some solar system or a fluid that can hold electic I would..so you wouldn't have to fight, well if you do go take care and thanks

The Iraqi government is dominated by pro-Iranian elements (you'll notice how the Iraqi PM refuses to criticize Iranian backed Hezbollah, for example). Iran is part of the axis-of-evil. So, by fighting to keep the current Iraqi government in power, it could actually be argued you are best serving Iranian interests.

It's not your fault, though. You are serving your country bravely and honorably. You just have a piss-poor Commander-in-Chief.

Just because you are an american soldier, doesn't mean that it is your job to protect just americans. We have the power, and responsibility to help people who are opressed. what if you had no one to help you, and someone stepped in who wasn't expected to? wouldn't you be thankfull? I know i would be. I also would like to see the soldiers come home, i have friends in iraq, but i know a lot of them don't want to come home until we're done. I'm just gratefull that they are there.

No you're fighting for oil rights. Our president and vice-president have stock in oil companies over there, so it's your job to make sure they keep making money.

How does it feel to know that you're a pawn for use by the gov't in order to make sure the rich get richer?
