Under the current tax system, all working americans, even those who make more than enough money to be financially secure, have the potential to recieve tax returns, the amount being based on factors ranging from family size to, in some cases, the amount of money an individual makes, as in the more you make the bigger your refund. It was previously suggested by John Kerry that the tax cuts could be eliminated for individuals who make enough money to be financially secure, and that the resulting deficit could be used to fund health care and other programs that are underfunded in the Bush administration. After hearing this from Kerry, and then voting for Bush, I think it is completely absurd for any close-minded conservative, or anyone else to suggest that non-profit health care systems such as the one being proposed by Dennis Kucinich are impossible to come by when billions are being more or less wasted (by going to individuals who do not need them) under the current tax system.

Evidence from other countries indicates that government-supported health care leads to a healthier population, yet the US continues to spend more than twice as much per capita on health care than comparable countries while having a population that’s less healthy than Europe or Canada.

Over 50% of US bankruptcies are related to unpaid medical bills.

As an Australian I have sometimes been guilty of taking easy potshots at Americas faults over the years, and I notice that a lot of Americans themselves seem discouraged with some of the current trends. Our Prime Minister, a very persistant little fellow who usually does what he thinks is right, apparently rebuked the Canadian Parliament in a speech to them for this same 'easy potshot' attitude to the USA. His point was - thank God it is the USA that is the dominant power in the world. Seeing the forest instead of the trees, the world would have collapsed into chaos at the end of WW2, but instead you put Europe back on its feet. Even so, the third world struggled on the brink of disaster and you have been the main reason why they are now in many cases, coming to prosperity. All this came from the basic goodness of your hearts & it finds recognition in hearts all around the world. Please dont thank me for saying this as it is only the truth that we all should recognise.

Israel has been fighting a war on terror for over 40 years & counting (and they didn't even start calling it a war on terror until 9/11 happened). And they are the world's experts at fighting terrorists. So if Israel can't even "win" a war on terror how is the US going to win it, other than eliminating every Muslim on the planet?

Just curious what everyone else here thinks. I can think of 5 of the most popular answers. I’d like to know which ones people agree with, and why if you like Especially if you have another reason (short and to the point please) list that as well. Or just vote.

a) stupid pointless thing that doesn’t apply today because we have no need for militias
b) stupid pointless thing that doesn’t apply today just because no one needs a gun anymore
c) so people can hunt, defend themselves…the outdoors, heritage, traditionalists point of view
d) designed so the people can always have a way if all else fails, wait for it: to overthrow the government!
e) I agree with answer D but I’m too scared to put it down because the alphabet soup gang is reading this.

Congressman Waxman wants his congressional commitee to listen to and monitor what Rush, Hanniety, and others braodcast and then hold them accountable.

Doesn't this sound like 1950's McCarthism? And should your government be involved in such activities?

The United States is the most powerful nation in the world which often acts unilaterally . The US has 737 military bases and 2,500,000 U.S. personnel serving across the planet - but is it an Empire ? Some people insist that “ empire ” means only direct rule over large-scale conquered territory and the United States today looks decidedly imperial . The term empire has entered common usage , not only among critics but also among advocates of muscular US policy and global superiority . Economist Niall Ferguson has written about the British Empire as a lesson-book for contemporary US power . Influential Washington neo-conservatives are using the " E-word " freely , insisting that the United States is the world’s most benevolent nation and that it should use its imperial power robustly to expand " freedom " across the globe .

My Question - What limits will the U.S. empire encounter , can it sustain " full spectrum dominance " for the forseeable future or will it provoke such broad opposition that its era of hegemony and prosperity comes swiftly and decisively to a close ? You Decide .
