As an Australian I have sometimes been guilty of taking easy potshots at Americas faults over the years, and I notice that a lot of Americans themselves seem discouraged with some of the current trends. Our Prime Minister, a very persistant little fellow who usually does what he thinks is right, apparently rebuked the Canadian Parliament in a speech to them for this same 'easy potshot' attitude to the USA. His point was - thank God it is the USA that is the dominant power in the world. Seeing the forest instead of the trees, the world would have collapsed into chaos at the end of WW2, but instead you put Europe back on its feet. Even so, the third world struggled on the brink of disaster and you have been the main reason why they are now in many cases, coming to prosperity. All this came from the basic goodness of your hearts & it finds recognition in hearts all around the world. Please dont thank me for saying this as it is only the truth that we all should recognise.

Thank you for your kind remarks. Those of us who have been around to see what the USA has been able to do know what you are talking about. We helped a lot of countries out after WW2 and then forgave their debts . The problem is our education system to-day does not teach any of this. The young people going through the system to-day are taught very little about American history instead they hear about the teachers political beliefs.

This American Realizes, That We Can Not Keep Taking Care Of All These Global Problems,The Tax Burden On Our Country Is And Has Been Ridiculous.I'm One Of The Ones Doing Without To Help...I Think Enough Is Enough And The United States Needs To Help It Self. Most Remarkably Modern War.It's Ludicrous,Win Wars Others Have Began,Only To Rebuild And Give It Back To Become A Competitor ? I Think Alot Of Our Policies Need To Be Examined And Changed. aw, you Aussies are something else.

Love your people and love your country, as I have been there and enjoyed the food, the view, and the people. Perth is a beautiful city.

Yes, we old timers do but some of our people in this generation doesn't. We have lived through ww2 and the rest until now...

Thanks to you Aussies, missles were dismantled in Iraq that were pointed at Israel. Your special ops came in under the cover of night and got the job done. Your fighter pilots are awsome too. Thanks to your country and your Prime Minister for standing with us in this war against terror.

God bless you.

It is often the case that one's country can only be seen clearly from the outside. Paul Johnson, an Englishman has written a stunningly refreshing book on the subject: A History of the American People. It is reflective of your comments and it made me a good deal prouder of my country.

Self criticism is important but it should not be used in place of a fair assessment of our worth. We too often focus on our own failings like the beautiful woman who can only see her blemishes. A very human trait but a very harmful one.

Thank you for your comments. The conservatives do indeed realize it. The liberals do not and strongly resent the fact that this country is not a totalitarian, Socialist or even downright Communist society. Happy, optimistic, can-do attitude, "I don't need a Democrat handout" types of people are conservatives. Unhappy, moaning, despondent, drug-addicted, "I want the Democrats to take someone else's money and give it to me" types of people are our liberals. So sad for them.

Many of us do, but sadly, some will always have the "Blame America First" attitude that you allude to.

Conservatives recognize that America is a great, giving and compassionate nation.

Liberals do not get it.

I am glad to see that you do, as well as your Prime Minister.
