U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar, a Minnesota Democrat, suggested Bush administration spending on the Iraq war may have crimped funding for domestic projects such as road and bridge construction, and for such infrastructure projects as new levees for New Orleans.
"We've spent $500 billion in Iraq and we have bridges falling down in this country," Klobuchar told MSNBC. "I see a connection between messed-up priorities."
Department of Transportation Secretary Mary Peters said billions of dollars were available for road and bridge repairs.

Not a patriot?
0 I have been told that I am not a patriot...?
Because I do not blindly follow our leaders and because I am not a Christian. When did our sense of patriotism become so skewed? When did the word "Patriot" become synonymous with the word "Sheep"? Thomas Jefferson sad that "The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it always to be kept alive". George Washington said that "Government is not reason, it is not eloquence, it is force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action". The people were meant to question their leaders. I have been accused of being a traitor because I favor liberty over security, yet did not Ben Franklin claim that "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"? If these founding fathers were still alive today, would they too be condemned of a lack of patriotism? Why has America strayed so far from her founding principals?

In the last 20 years, we’ve sent billions in aid to the Arab world. We’ve saved Muslims from Bosnia to Kuwait. We’ve removed dangerous thugs in Afghanistan and Iraq, fostering democracies in their place. We’ve opened our borders to immigrants from the Middle East. We’ve paid billions of dollars in inflated oil prices. All the while, many in the West have wrongly blamed themselves for the conditions in the Middle East.

It’s past time for Middle Easterners to fix their own self-inflicted mess. In the meantime, the U.S. and its allies should help as we can — but first protect ourselves from them as we must.

Bush had a romantic idea that he could install a democratic society in Iraq, a tribal society. Removing Hussein released centuries old tribal hatreds between Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds, and thousands of people have been killed.

Gandhi had a romantic idea that he could install a democratic society in India. After he forced the British out, centuries old tribal hatreds between Muslims and Hindus erupted. According to Geographia Asia website, "violence erupted when stranded Muslims and Hindu minorities in the areas fled in opposite directions. Within a few weeks, half a million people had died in the course of the greatest migration of human beings in the world's history."

Which person has caused the greater violence? And why will liberals never learn their false ideals cause more bloodshed than good?

this would mean that our nation is run by harlots and prostitutes.

if you think about how our politicians 'sell' themselves to the highest bidder - this may be the most accurate way to describe our government.

All developed countries except usa have universal health care. I know that americans tend to associate universal health care with socialism. However, in america, schools, libraries, police stations are all socialized. Another reason i can think of is that americans don't want to pay taxes for uhc. But isn't it people first and money second, given that america is the "most democratic", Christian country?

Guess who owns most of that poppy crop that is used to make heroin? That's right. The Taliban. Who then use that money to buy weapons & supplies for themselves & Al Qaeda to attack US troops in Afghanistan while also supplying every addict & new addict in the USA with Heroin.

Funny how people don't even realize how Afghanistan is almost as screwed up as Iraq. Afghanistan is now a combination of Iraq & Columbia. Ain't that nice to know?

Isn't Bush doing a great job?

I am born and raised in the U.S. but I no longer want to live here. I have seen the judicial system get more corrupt every year. And there is no "freedom of speech" or where they choose to allow it serves them(the govn't) only. The system is so screwed up that a hard working citizen like my mom can't get any help for serious medical problems yet a perfectly healthy 25 year old can be on "welfare" and get everything for free. I'm sick of it so...

I've decided that I'm going to move to Britain...yes I know all that it entails but it's what I want to do.

My question is...
1)Should I stay here and go to college and then get my degree(most likely journalism) and then move, or should I move right after high school?

2) Are Americans who become British citizens accepted over there? I mean...do people accept them as one of their own?

Any personal insight is great as well...

Four of my children are working full time, for some time--two of them have jobs that offer health insurance--equaling 1/2 of their monthly paycheck. The other two work for companies that do not offer health insurance at all.

Fortunately, one has a wife who has free health coverage for herself, and very inexpensive coverage for him. The others have nothing--or nothing within reason.

If our country is not going to supply national health coverage--with the price of doctors, labs and hospitals, etc.--then shouldn't all employers offer it?

What would VICTORY be? The death of all Shiite? All Sunni? They have hated each other since the death of Muhammad. Should we go to war with Turkey after they invade Iraq to kill the Kurds? Get real! There is no Victory. Saddam Hussein was a monster but that is how he was able to hold the country together. The screw up goes back to the End of World War One. Blame Laurence of Arabia. If we pull out, our real enemy, Iran, will take over Iraq and attack Israel. Saudi Arabia will defend the Sunnis in Iraq. Turkey will wipe out the Kurds. The USA will Invade Iran. We created the whole problem by putting our puppet, the Pshaw, in charge of Iran. Just as we put Babtista in charge of Cuba, Why we, the USA Government, murdered Allende after he was elected president of Chile. Like we refused to allow Vietnam free elections as promised by the Geneva accords, because we knew that Ho Chi Minh would be elected. Get real. Support Democracy. Do not let the NAZIs take over our country.
