Unfortunately, the extremes you've outlined seem to have come to represent Republican and Democratic values in the eyes of many people. They're almost cartoon caricatures, but they have come to represent the best or worst of each party depending on your point of view.

Fortunately, there are Democrats and Republican who have ranges of believes, where there can be agreement and compromise.

I am a Muslim and I consider myself very conservative. I will answer one by one.

1. Traditional/Family Values-I am very much for these as Christians and Muslims share many of the same ones and don't even realize it.
2. Christian/Church Going/etc-I am a Muslim who attends the mosque as often as possible. I read from my Qur'an daily. This is close enough as both are Abrahamic religions.
3.Creationism-The stories in the Holy Qur'an and the bible are very similar, so yes, they should be taught in schools.
4.Abortions-Abortion is murder, plain and simple, and this goes against the wishes and the will of Allah, most benevolent, ever merciful.
5. Against gay marriage-homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of Allah.
6. Pro war-if it is to defend your home or to help your allies, yes. Simply to remove a mad man which has led to Theological slaughter over the differences between Sunni and Sh'ia, no.
7.Strong economy- The better off business is, the more we all profit.
8.Global Warming-while I feel that we do need to conserve a lot of nature, I don't feel that enough research has been done on the full extent of global warming. It is bad when 1/2 the scientist's doing the studying can't agree with the other 1/2.
9. Strict laws- All I have to say is to look at Saudi Arabia. They have very stiff penalties and almost no crime rate. The punishment should fit the crime.
10. Capital Punishment- Refer back to #9. I think public beheadings and hangings would also go a long way to deter crime. If you can see the results of someones misdeeds, you may be less tempted to do them in the future.
11. Pro Gun Ownership-this is a constitutionally protected right. The right to bear arms is the right to be free.
This is how I feel on the conservative issues listed and is probably in complete disagreement with the liberal ones you listed. Not all Conservatives are white christians you know. Have a good day.

Its not about party politics. Its about labels.
There are plenty of Conservative democrats (Joe Leiberman) as well as Liberal Republicans (W).
What your talking about is Traditional American Values vs their replacement with moral chaos, "do it if it feels good" philosophy that creats people who don't give a damn about anything except self gratification NOW!
Those open minded progressives disingenuously pander for the same religious voters they secretly dispise as the elitist know-it-alls they are.
Wise up and get your steriotypical opinions from somewhere other than your leftist teachers at Lefty U.

Its sad that we have to chose a side there to have a voice in this government. My beliefs are a mix of the 2 (pro-choice, pro-2nd amendment, separation of church and state, global warming has been blown out of proportion), but I'm forced to make concessions in my beliefs when voting because all the candidates play to their bases and never have unique perspectives.

Not all Republicans are money-grubbing rednecked Bible thumpers. Some look after their copies of the bible quite carefully, treating it with respect in the hope that one day they'll be able to make some sense of all the contradictions it contains.

Are all democrats self-loathing traitors, who want to give away the country, and constantly preach tolerance for everyone except people with a deference of opinion, and smokers? As as democrat, Don't you see the contradiction when you tell people not to stereotype others, then write that rubbish?

There should be a separation between church and state, Republicans are rich greedy bastards who are trying to make another dime. I believe they are bible thumpers seeing as how G.W. "found" God. You dont find God hes not hiding! This nation has done very very well with democrats in office in history, JFK, FDR, Clinton. For god sakes it was a ******* people, the republican senate was more pissed they didnt know Monica was given em out so they missed out. Republicans dont have a great run, Bush Sr., Nixon, Bush Jr.
But we have democraticized (not a word) the senate so the next best question is... Black or Boobs?

2008 Go Obama and Hillary
01.20.09 Bush's last day in Office
01.21.09 Day Bush will probably be assassinated by a hippie
01.31.09 Day no one shows up to his funeral service

Liberals are not open-minded progressives. They are closed-minded. They are not progressive. Liberals want government to run the country. Liberals want to run the government.

As a prominent theologist once said, it's impossible to be a conservative and also be a christian. It's a contradiction in terms.
