Thats because they read the first amendment with a caviat. Free speech has been reinterpreted to mean Politically Correct Speech. As long as the speech you engage in is politically correct, then it is protected by the first ammendment. Othewise you are a unwashed barbarian bigot who deserves no freedom, compassion , or quarter.

Liberals are not tolerant. Just look at any of the Conservative speakers who were invited to speak on college campuses, but had their speech cut short by relentless sabotage from Liberal students.
Have you ever heard of Conservatives behaving in such a deplorable manner? Do Conservatives protest by blocking traffic, burning the flag, and spitting on policemen?
Libs are amazingly condescending about issues, when the only "information" they know is what they've gotten from their MTV sound bites, Comedy Central, or from a slanted Michael Moore movie. Ah yes..... Libs, the ultimate dilettantes.
Libs can't conceive that anyone does not follow in lock step with their nutty, hypocritical, irresponsible, aging douche-bag hippie agenda. When you voice your dissent, they act like you just stabbed a baby in the heart. Can someone actually be questioning the infallible Liberal, who knows what's good for the general public and therefore must have government make all our decisions for us?
Libs simply aren't tolerant of anyone who doesn't share their view of the world.

Hey pachl - talk about a load of CRAP.
The Republican ran two campaigns where they screened every person who was allowed to enter the room where the president would be speaking - not for safety, for political ideology.
They had goon squads at the convention to take care of anyone who dared ask a cutting question of W.
They brand anyone who dares exercise the right to question the actions of their elected officials a traitor, or say they are giving aid to the enemy.
They spit on every man who ever served in war and was awarded a bronze or silver star, by attacking decorated war heroes, saying they got the medal through tricks or deceit; all in defense of a man who was a drunk and flunk out, who had his Daddy pull strings so he could hide in the guard instead of going to Vietnam, and then didn't even bother to fulfill that commitment.
And you say "Libs, the ultimate dilettantes." Man you must not just be into recreational drugs, you must be doing full scale psychotropic research.

Well, consider the superb teachers they've had: "free speech" fanatics who believe hate-mongering is their inalienable right. Shawn Hannity, Howard Stern, Ann Coulter, and Rush Limbaugh all come to mind as loud mouths who disrespect others' opinions, refuse to participate in fair and balanced dialog, and are rude to anyone who disagrees with their conservative tripe.
It's only a matter of time before Limbaugh & Co. convince a portion of listeners that it's acceptable to insult, injure or even kill liberals, or any other 'wackos' who don't believe the conservative agendas. Hitler did the same thing to otherwise intelligent Germans before World War II, convincing some that it was acceptble to gas six million Jews. -RKO- 08/04/07

Free speech is only free if it agrees with the hate speech point of view.

Free speech not only includes the right of each person to speak their mind, but the right of every *other* person to respond to it. It goes both ways. A person can say something contradictory to public opinion, that's his right. And it's the next persons right to respond to that spoken opinion with the speech he or she chooses.

It goes like this, if you say something that goes against the left, it's hate speech. If you say something that goes against the right, it's edgy and thought provoking.

the left has had 30 years of good "hate speech" training from the repubs. so they should be expected to slip up now and then. Besides all that our republican society seems to understand these days is hate speech.

it is only hate speech when you don't agree with them. They also want to tell you and me HOW to say this that and the other thing. Political Correctness is a failed experiment.

Are you so desperate for justification of your irrational hatred for those who want to make this country better that you have to invent nonsense like this?
