Some revisionist history going on here from Plezurgui.
We were already in Vietnam when Kennedy took office, he did escalate the level of involvement at the strong urging of his vice president LBJ.
The 'War on Poverty' was part of LBJ's great society that he put forward long after Kennedy had been assassinated.
Keep in mind it was John F. Kennedy that challenged us to put a man on the moon and return him safely to earth within a decade. Which we did. The pure scientific research and engineering that went into that effort in the single cause of our great surge in technology and innovation threw out the 60's, 70's and 80's. Then all those who chant the 'why are we waisting money on NASA' came into power. No more money for research, no more off shouts to spur industry.

JFK served from January of 1961 until November of 1963. He got us into the Vietnam War and his administration created the "War on Poverty" which wasted billions of dollars and set us back at least 10 years.
edit: Cosmicwindwalk: You are so full of it, it is amazing. JFK's and RFK's deaths had nothing to do with equality. True enough, MLK's murder was a racist killing, but one which actually helped the so-called Civil Rights movement.

right after eisenhower - so that would be late 50' early 60's i am going to venture to guess 58 - thru part of early 60's. it was short lived.
bobby tried to pick up the pieces -but they got him to - him MLK, malcolm x yep - probably lots of others to - nothing is more dangerous then those who promote equality regardless of color, age, religion.
if obma didn't fold like a cheap suit - they would get him to - but he not only folded - he bowed to the occasion.
