I think every voting, law-abiding, taxpaying American should be required to carry a gun. They should have to take a course and have a special card they carry like a driver's license. If you refuse to carry, you could be denied access to certain government buildings, programs, or positions. Also, if you are pulled over for a routine traffic stop, the cop should ask to see your license, registration, proof of insurance, and your piece. If you don't have it with you, or it's unloaded, you get an automatic $150 fine. Furthermore, if you witness a crime, a question the DA should ask in court is, "Did you draw your firearm? No? Aren't you aware that you must take action to prevent a crime if you witness one?"

Think what it would be like to be a criminal in a society where everyone was packin' heat and knew how to use it...

Some parties are talking about wanting to raise the level of income tax to 50% for higher earners - why is this fair?

Surely penalising people for earning more money will discourage them from wanting to work harder and progress?

Wouldn't tax be better charged on a person's spending rather than their income? e.g. if you wanted (and could afford) a gas guzzling, polluting Jaguar over say an environmentally-friendly Toyota electric car then fine, but you would pay more tax on the Jag.

Why should somebody pay more tax because they happen to work harder and longer and therefore earn more than some lazy lay-about who can't be bothered?

The whole system is wrong.

What do you think?

Has a nation ever "nationalized" assets (i.e., taken over oil companies without compensating the owners) without also limiting freedom of speech, of the press, freedom to vote, etc.

Are the two always linked? Usually? Sometimes?

Thanks.

On the radio this morning they were saying something about 7-Eleven no longer using Citgo gas because it comes from Venezuela. They said that some politician from Venezuela went to the UN taking all kinds of crap about GW Bush therefore 7-Eleven is going to boycott Citgo gas. Is this true? Do you really think 7-Eleven will find a new gas company?

If you wonder why we elect bad leaders just look at how many people respond to questions like "did clinton like that bj?" or "is Bush porking condi?" as opposed to "what do we do about cheating voting machines?". I hate to say it but I guess we get who we deserve most of the time.

They can be from any party, male or female, inside or outside politics. Don't worry about politics, or about if they have a realistic chance of ever becoming president. Just think of it in terms of who you think would do the best job. There is one exception. It can't be anyone who is or was president.
