While viewing a video clip on about the WWII Nazi Secret Service (SS), I immediately thought of the US Republican political party and the American people. Then another surprising thought and image; Bush as Hitler with the 'stach at the podium jerking his hand in harmony while convincing an ignorant apathetic audience (US People) about the importance of democracy and how democracy should be forced upon the world. Suddenly, all the Christian fanatics and AAers shoved their hand into the air in allegiance to their fuerer!!

For the past five years, I've seen more debates over religion and democracy than anything else. Now if I were to go the off beaten track of reading the media other than manistream, I find the total opposite.

Why must we put up with the nonsense of stupidity...

Let's face it, in terms of Mass Transit, Health Care, Ports, Infrastructure, Education, National Debt, General Welfare, Crime, Quality of Life, Emergency Response, even basic techonology such as access to cheap high speed internet, Scientific research such as stem cell research, etc., etc. ... it seems to me we are lagging more and more behind other countries. This is based on travels and discussions with happy expatriates. What's the problem? America Love it or Leave it is not an acceptable answer. Talk about it, please tell me that I'm wrong.

George W. Bush, the hero for all right wing extremists.

The 22% of America that still vowes to defend this guy 'till the end, they can use their distorted logic to defend the war in Iraq, the failure in N.O. and even the CIA leaks.

But none ever attempt to defend the words that come out of Bush's mouth?

"Our Enemies are innovative and resourceful and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and neither do we."

"It is in our country's interests to find those who would do harm to us, and get them out of harm's way."

"We discussed the way forward in Iraq, discussed the importance for a democracy in the Middle East, in order to leave behind a peaceful tommorow."

"I've coined new words, like misunderstanding and Hispanically."

"Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream."

"There is no doubt in my mind, not one doubt in my mind, that we will fail."

C'mon you Bush supporters! Defend him!

Why do so many Republicans seem so irate/threatened by both Democrats and the idea of "liberalism".

Democrats don't seem to be so wound-up by Republicans, even when they don't agree with what they say.

If you could write a sentence or two I'd be grateful because as a outsider this is something that I don't quite understand. Please add your political affiliation to your answer (i.e: Rep. or Dem. etc)

I have heard this used as a negative stereotype from conservatives; the stereotype certainly applies to me and many of the academic/literary types that I know. Many of these types have made or will be making a great deal of money, so it seems to defy the rich=conservative, poor=liberal stereotype.

This adminstration has used a veto only once. Under this Adminstration signing statements misused have allowed them to circumvent the Constitution. The number is approaching 600 now and he basically is voiding these laws as they relate to the Executive branch of Goverment. The John McCain anti-torture legislation is one example. If he doesn't agree he has the option to pass it, renegoiate it or veto it not to write a disclaimer for his branch of Goverment. He has used this quietly keeping up the appearance of nonpartisonship while building his branch of Goverement. He's using signing statements like line item veto's but they've been ruled unconstitutional in Clinton vs New York 1988. His power currently allow him to sign, veto or return the bill to the House and Senate. So with only one veto and 600 signing statements excluding his branch from accountablilty to bills passed in the house and senate he appears to be effective and a team player. Politics or good policy ?
