Are you looking for just raw numbers of total enlistees or the personnel records of specific people?

Because almost all enlistment records from before 1950 were destroyed in a fire in the 1970s.

You may need to write to the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. or look up the telephone number in the telephone book. Usually there is a listing of all departments.

Also, try the local veterans groups for addresses and links. The American Legion, the Veterans Administration, or any service connected group or you can even write your U.S. Congressman or U.S. Senator.

Many times records are kept in newspapers, obituary, etc. Try the local newspapers if you know the exact dates of military servitude for back issues. Your local clergy may guide you to the proper agency for W.W. I records.
