I read an answer a little while ago and a person was saying how Costa Rica had great value for its citizens. It gives them universal health care and encourages them to stay in their country, where they live a good life.

Why doesn't Mexico value its people that way ?
Why do they encourage and almost force poor people to leave and go to the USA both legally and illegally.

What are your views on this .?

I will file I-130/I-485 for my non-US citizen spouse who is currently in the US on student visa. After filing I hear that the spouse can stay in the country while processing is being done. What do they give that allows her to stay? Is it some kind of stamp or visa? document of some sort? And how long does it take to receive this?

illegally and were arrested by the Texas Border Patrol. They were taken to Hutto, one of two detainee camps in the US ( the other is in Pennsylvania). The camps operate under the direction of Homeland Security. The woman was separated from her child for three hours while being interrogated for terrorism. Hutto was orignially designed as a prison. Then it was used to house Katrina evacues. Now it is used to detain illegal families. The children are taught by certified teachers. There is carpet and a play station. Meals are prepared by certified dieticians. Of 2000 complaints. all were about the food except for 13. Activists are calling this a prison like environment that is harmful. They claim that if Americans were aware of this, they would be outraged !! Well, Americans..... are you? By the way, the woman was held for 7 months before appearing before a judge and requesting asylum, which she received. She now lives in a shelter in Austin.

i keep hearing the "they pick our oranges, they mow our lawn, they clean our hotel rooms" as justification for illegals being here. However, do illegals as well as Americans realize that these illegals are being discriminated against?

These same jobs are offered to these illegals because their standards are low. An american will not take a job cleaning someone's smelly s/hit or picking oranges in the heat for $4.15 an hour. Yet, an illegal will do it.

Yes these illegals are hard workers though these same companies hiring them are only doing it because they know illegals have low standards regarding pay and work and they lessen the wage. They wouldnt dare post the same wage to a typical american. If there were no illegals to do the job, they wouldnt have any choice but to raise the wage suitable for the cost of living

Knowing this, why do these illegals still come here. they can barely make a living and do they realize how these companies view them?

I'm French and I will move to the US soon.
I've been to the US before (in 1999 for a summer job) and my English wasn't very good at that time, but it was O.K. I think it was O.K. because I hang out with other Europeans who spoke slowly and didn't use difficult expressions.
But I know that Americans don't speak slowly and use a lot of idioms, slang, and phrasals verbs that are difficult to learn because there are so many!
My English is much better now; I got a good score at the TOEIC test (945/990).
I watch a lot of American TV, read books in English, and I try to learn slang.
I don't have any problems understanding written or spoken English, but I'm a little afraid of my spoken English.
I'd like to get answers from people who went to the US without a perfect English. I'd like to know HOW LONG did it take you to be very comfortable with spoken English, and when I say very comfortable it means when you knew you spoke without hesitation, fast, and with no grammar mistakes.
Thanks.

I need to move away from the UK, I hope to move to USA to teach. I am not sure how to do this, any ideas? I know it will be a huge change, no friends, no family, but I need to find happiness and tranquility elsewhere.
Any suggestions will be welcomed, any further information, work, nice areas, schools, festivities that happen in particular areas.
Thanks for you time with this. I hope I can gain some extra knowledge. Oh and anyone that is there at the moment who wants to be my friend when I move will also be welcomed!!! Cheeaarrrrs
