I would like to buy a large private island (perhaps create a micronation) and accept political refugees there in order to provide them a sfae environment. Is this legally possible? If legal, how would one go about doing something like this? Details please! Thanks.

There was a private island for sale over by the Island of St. Thomas last year for sale. $25 million, no running water or electricity. If you bought it, I guess you could invite anyone over that you wished.

Jim Jones like eh? Like a Jonestown, You see how that ended up. Mass Suicide. That never works. Too many differences in opinion. One person won't like the leader, you need to make your own economy, jobs, you'd have to initiate trade, then here comes more people to over crowd your country. Yeah it's pretty much a bad idea. No matter what refugee's and immigration will happen. If your country does start doing good, someone will ruin it. THere is one of those in every bunch.

With money all things are possible.
Lots of money that is.
How would you provide basic necessities for people, food shelter etc.You cant be self supporting on an island.Water would
be a huge factor,sewage,
schools,hospitals
police force the needs that
people must have to live .
How would you protect it from interlopers, people that wanted to take over your island.your idea is a credit to your kindness but I don't see how it would work in practical application.

You would have to get a government willing to work with you since land has been claimed by various governments all of whom have their own immigration laws.

If you were rich enough to provide incentives and guarantees you may be able to work it out with a poor nation. However, who would build and pay for the schools, health care and benefits?

Go ahead!

Watch out though... the Dems might tax you more money for owning the island even though you give a large chunk to charity.

No details but you can do it. You might still have to defend your right to keep the Island though. Are you equipped to stave off any aggressors?

The whole point of a safe haven is its anonmity.World dictators can easily bomb the whole place and rid themselves of their enemies.
example the Litvinenko case.
