illegally and were arrested by the Texas Border Patrol. They were taken to Hutto, one of two detainee camps in the US ( the other is in Pennsylvania). The camps operate under the direction of Homeland Security. The woman was separated from her child for three hours while being interrogated for terrorism. Hutto was orignially designed as a prison. Then it was used to house Katrina evacues. Now it is used to detain illegal families. The children are taught by certified teachers. There is carpet and a play station. Meals are prepared by certified dieticians. Of 2000 complaints. all were about the food except for 13. Activists are calling this a prison like environment that is harmful. They claim that if Americans were aware of this, they would be outraged !! Well, Americans..... are you? By the way, the woman was held for 7 months before appearing before a judge and requesting asylum, which she received. She now lives in a shelter in Austin.

I see,
It was good enough for Katrina victims, US citizens, but not good enough for criminal treapassers. What we should put them up at the Marriott?? Give them frequent treapasser miles?.

They have their meals prepared by certified dieticians and that is harmful?

Ask our own homeless if they would take that deal.
I am outraged that someone would complain because I know for a fact that, should I ever become destitute and need a helping hand, it won't be there.

Let's use common sense. If the US went to Mexico and built that exact facility that offered those ammenities, the line to get in would stretch for miles.

The bleeding heart liberals love to complain but never ever offer a better solution.

I am outraged.....I'm outraged at the fact that the country that I was born and raised in (USA) has absolutely no compassion for those seeking a better life. Isn't that was the USA is all about (the American Dream)?

I think what everybody is forgetting is there are human beings behind the commonly used word - "illegal."

How would you like to have to leave everything familiar so that you could have a chance at raising your child. Don't you think it would be uncomfortable to not understand ANYTHING anybody was saying? People talk about "uneducated" or "unskilled" that come to the US illegally....of course....those that actually have the money to go to school and buy the books (public education in foreign countries is not like the US) don't generally attempt to immigrate because they have the ability to thrive in their own country! My thoughts are that most of the unskilled and uneducated would jump at the chance to learn English and a trade - if given the opportunity.

The criminals, I agree, need to go. But there is some reason the judge granted asylum to this mother...immigration judges are tough!

I am very outraged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the fact that they weren't immediately sent back over the boarder hence they came! That they have the nerve to complain about ANYTHING, nonetheless the food, which I am sure is better then the lunch that they serve for my son at his school. At the fact that this woman was then granted asylum!!

***********

I think that some people don't get that you aren't happy with what happened with this woman and her child. That they were granted asylum and not sent back over the border.

Mexican Americans and Mexicans have different cultures in many ways. I remember asking a guy from Mexico City if he had noticed a cultural difference in the Mexican Americans and he said "Yes! All the Mexican Americans are stuck up and so into worldly posessions". That I guess illuminates some of the overall differences.

I am outraged that a woman would put her young child in danger to illegally cross our border.

Who cares. She should have thought about that before she decided to sneak into this country. Now she's being given asylum for getting treated like the criminal she is. That's BS. I should break into her shelter with my kid and steal her identity, and request asylum when I get caught. The government needs to decide whether they want to follow through with their laws or if they are just going to get rid of them. This is crap.

No, I am not outraged.

"Activists are calling this a prison like environment that is harmful. They claim that if Americans were aware of this, they would be outraged !! Well, Americans..... are you?"

Are you asking if I'm outraged because of the prison-like environment? Maybe I'm misunderstanding you. If it IS what you mean...then NO, I am not outraged. Who cares what the conditions are like there....they should have thought about that before they crossed over here illegally.

Am I outraged she was detained, no. I am outraged that my tax dollars pay for things like playstations, and that she is still in this country living off of my dime.

There is nothing wrong with the fact that they were detained and questioned! After all, they crossed the border ILLEGALLY!!!
She should have detained there permanently or deported!!

I would say they should consider themselves lucky that Border Patrol caught them and not a mexican Coyote who could have taken her son as ransom or killed both of them.
