Wow! you actually did it. Good for you.
Like other two said, you can change the sponsor. and here is web site if you are looking for new sponsor and contact of US Department of State, BEC. (go to PRIVATE SECTOR, TEACHER)
http://exchanges.state.gov/education/jexchanges/about.htm
Here is bad news. It will be difficult to find new sponsor when you have legal case like yours. You need help from your current sponsor's help to get that transfer happen without problem.
By the time when you find a sponsor and get all the paper done, you won't have much time left in the State, many sponsors are state education board itself, and you might have to change the location. That means you have to relocate for one year of service. Just remember most Americans are good.

You may apply for a Waiver if there are hardships to the U.S. citizen or Green Card holder.

The Program Designation Branch in the Bureau of Education, Cultural Exchanges and Academic Programs (ECA) handles J-1 extensions, category changes, and program transfers. You will need to contact them directly.

They can be reached at 202-401-9810 to get the exceptional hardship application.

Ran into some more info, hope this helps:

Transfer
The transfer of a participant from one program (sponsor) to another may be allowed at the discretion of the responsible officers and must be within the same category. The responsible officer of the program to which the participant seeks to transfer is required to verify the participant's visa status and eligibility, to issue a new Form DS-2019 reflecting the transfer, and to obtain the release of the participant from the current responsible officer, who indicates approval of the transfer by completing and signing block 8 of the new Form DS-2019. Transfers are not permitted in all categories, and a transfer does not extend the maximum duration of the program. Participants should address all inquiries regarding change of category to the responsible officer of their programs.

Yes, you can change the sponsor, but must submit the paperwork for the change BEFORE the change goes into effect. You will need to provide proof of funding from the new sponsor to your school so they can submit the information in SEVIS. Then, they'll print a new DS-2019 with the change in sponsorship.
