Is it because they're scared? If they rolled back civil rights because of a terrorist threat, do people actually think they won't do so in the name of ending "global warming" ? Why are people not okay with having terrorist phones tapped but okay with having the government decide what lightbulbs you MUST use or the type of water consuming toilet you MUST have in your house.

Neither one (phone tapping versus lightbulb laws) seems less of an intrusion that the other.

So whats the deal?

If you eliminate the Federal Welfare system for Congressmen and Senators and make every raise they get subject to approval of the people in a general election, that would save Billions of $.

I was listening to Barack on the radio the other day,he actually sounded like a decent guy and a good candidate if you believe what he says but does he stand a chance of being President? I don't think so,if for no other reason than that both parties seem to be trying to eat their young on this election and I don't think he has the strong enough credentials to survive it. So does he end up being Hillary's VP? I hope neither of them win if for no other reason than the fact that my taxes would at least double if either one of thems elected in order to pay on the huge debt the current Dipshit in Chief has built up and so they can start all their social programs they want like National Health Care, might be a great deal for the non working people of the US but it will suck the life out of working people. But who do you think wins,my personal opinion is that neither of them is electable without the other, which makes Obama VP because I know Hillary isn't going to take back seat to anyone.

but ignore the fact that in 2005 , the US government spent $150 billion for corporate subsidies and tax benefits given to corporations, more than the $145 billion paid out annually for the core programs of the social welfare state: Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), student aid, housing, food and nutrition, and all direct public assistance (excluding Social Security and medical care)?

Those that feel bad for the 45 million without any form of health care, you guys pay for them. Those who do not want their money going towards it don't have to front the bill. The ones that opt not to pay for it, dont reap any of the benefits. Does this sound fair or does anybody else have any better solutions that don't involve the distribution of money that does not belong to you?

It seems as if George Bush is giving $millions to extreme Sunni organisations to combat Iranian Shiites. This is just the same as giving Saddam Hussien mega weapons as the US did in the 80's. Will they never learn? Are they that stupid? Osama bin Laden must be laughing all the way to nuclear bomb revenge by now.
Why has not G Bush been prosecuted for giving material aid to an enemy of the US?

A quote:
"Actually, exceptionalism is more than merely a doctrine here. It is a deeply held world view that holds across the political spectrum. Remember, it was Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, who articulated America's mission to make the world "safe for democracy," and Bill Clinton who announced in 1998 that America had come to define 'the right side of history.'

For U.S. policy makers, says Prestowitz, this translates into the conviction 'that America is a special country with a mission and special virtue, and therefore it has a duty and a right to try to spread these values, in some cases by force if necessary.'"
